I hear this morning that the Victorian Taxpayer has baled the Diamonds Netball to the tune of the 15 million dollars that they rejected from Gina Rinehart.
They say it is good for tourism. Really?
Probably not so good for flood victims, and the existing massive state debt.
Some may ask where is the diamonds social and moral compass lining up for a handout from every Victorian.

Agree with your views. Netball threw away 15 million so why should the taxpayer cover their loss?
There is no moral compass where big money is involved. Has never been and never will be.
Maybe those selfish players and admin should be taken to the current flood areas or maybe to the bush fire areas where the victims are still waiting for monetary support.
I will leave it there for fear of a political comment slipping out.

You are probably being PC and trying to avoid the wrath from SWMBO, but IMHO it comes down to one player,
the newest, the most immature and no one wanting to take on this controversial subject. Shame on you Dan
I saw the news before I posted, so I didn't mean to suggest that the story was false. I just wanted to see the nature of the sponsorship. Han**** was a "high performance program partner", so I wondered where Vic Tourism would slot in.

Most interestingly the ABC has been very unforthcoming on this matter. Listening to radio news on local ABC and News Radio today I've not heard a mention. I wonder why that is? Fake news in reverse perhaps?

Not true. The ABC was my original information source, even before this thread.

I'm a Victorian who chooses to live interstate and I will not return to live there for the forseeable future.
I think 15 million could be better spent on flood releif.
I would agree if it were that straightforward, but I imagine the dollars brought into Victoria as a result of the sponsorship will likely exceed the cost of the sponsorship which would make it a win all round.
The New South Wales premier, Gladys Berejiklian, has executed a U-turn on her $2.5bn plan to knock down and rebuild Sydneys two main sporting stadiums.
Instead the government will refurbish ANZ stadium at Homebush, built for the 2000 Olympics at a cost of $810m, shaving $500m off the cost.
The Coalition will, however, still demolish and rebuild the Allianz stadium at Moore Park at a cost of $730m, even though it is rarely at capacity.
The government has been accused of putting investment in sporting venues ahead of other priorities.
And don't forget that NSW was the state that was prepared to pay $25m for a flag on a pole on a bridge. That's almost enough to sponsor two national sporting teams.

Oh Chairman Dan, you silly man, you should have invested that 15 million into Gina's Iron Ore projects. A guaranteed good return for Victoria instead of just clearing debts for netball.

Just 'Dan Andrews' would have been sufficient. The disrespect of the name calling looks like a provocative invitation to a party political argument which this is not the place for.
It's not just like the money is being given away, the advertising s doing a job. Visit Victoria are aiming to have 26.5 billion dollars flowing into Victoria as income from visitors by 2025. If a mere 15 million helps to make that happen it seems (to me) quite a worthwhile thing to do.
