Marlene, Sorry to hear about failure - are you seeking advice of how to repair? If so, you would need to provide further information - such as Model of MH, what is cause (if known), etc.

There are many on GN's that may have to knowledge you seek - but you will need to provide all pertinent information.

My caravan is sold in two versions; with and without a slide-out.

A slide-out would really suit my style of camping ie. long periods in one place, consequently I looked very long and hard at the slide-out model but finally came to the conclusion that slide-outs are generally going to be trouble in the medium to long term and I am sure my decision was the correct one.

The slide-out will probably be fine for the  (say) three year warranty but after that you're on your own....

 Agree.

In general regardless of the product, if it doesn't really need to slide or move in some form, avoid it.

Less things to go wrong.

Very early slide out on our 2010 Sterling not well engineered and has been nothing but problems.

I assume that the latest ones would be better?

The issue I have is they really need to be extended to move around inside . Besides we spend more time through day out in the awning ?

I almost bought a 5th wheeler with a pullout, but because I couldn't make my mind up on an acre block of land on top of St. Helena, at Byron Bay ( only $50k), I missed out on the land, thus pointless to buy the RV. The pull out on it was a brilliant mechanism, so simple. Being dumb and stupid at the time, missed out on the multi million dollar potential of the land location, that was proven 4 years later.
