SNORKEL TEST FAIL

Hi, i have a snorkel fitted to our bt50 and on our last trip the induction/air noise i usually hear suddenly stopped, when i got home i partly placed a thick piece of cardboard across the top of snorkel then slowly covered the whole thing. There was no suction at all, sound of engine didnt change and ran as normal.  I cant find any obvious air leaks such as the join in the guard,  and where it enters the air box seems ok.  Hoping to get some other things i may look for please.  The car runs and even idles ok, and no warning lights on . THANKS .

If you calculate the size of your engine, the RPM, compression with in general a turbo. It is a bit of an eye opener the volume of air that has to get through these things each minute.

Inlet manifold leak?

That air is coming from somewhere.

Not to forget the air box on the under side of the air filter has holes in it to drain condensation. So it will never be 100% sealed.

the higher it revs the more air it needs , so it must be getting air from somewhere if not thru your snorkel.

Theres a hell lot of volume for engine to use before you get any suction or vacuum!! Theres only a few joins . Its not hard to check ? If your not ever going in deep water ? I wouldnt worry too much . Except air leaks in engine back sucking in hot air .

im off to cape york ,doing the old telegraph track that has a few water crossings in april. The one join inside the guard/panel was a little loose which i have tightened as well as extra silicone at airbox/filter entry. im a little worried because other 4wds ive had, stalled the engine at idle revs. The hoses all look as new. thanks for the suggestions. Air filter was change at recent Mazda service.
