Where abouts in Queensland are you? A simple tune is a far better bet than a chip. My tune increased power 25% and torque by 45%, from memory.

Landcruiser V8 towing 3500kg van, all up weight 6800kg, and I get 5.8km/litre (16mpg). 17 litres/100km. Cheers

P.S Your fuel tank capacity is only 80 litres, so I reckon that a little car towing 2700kg is doing OK at 6km/litre.(+/-)

yobarr , bundaberg, i get 6+km /litre depending on terrain , i don't know if i would get a lot out of a tune it's only 12mths old .

Hi Ian. While you were writing I edited my post to say you're getting 6km/ litre (+/-) which is OK for a little car towing 2700kg.

My advice is to forget the chip. Cheers

I agree with yobarr; get the vehicle tuned by someone who has the gear and knows what they are doing - which probably rules out the main dealer.

"Chipping" the vehicle in any manner will void your warranty.

My caravan is a similar weight to yours maybe 100kg or so heavier and I tow it with a Holden Trailblazer which returns between 14 and 16L/100km when towing at around 90kph. I think the Trailblazer is quite similar to the Mux?

There is no magic here: when you hang 3T of aerodynamic brick off the back of a car the fuel consumption is going to go through the roof, without the van and cruising at 90kph the Trailblazer returns around 7L/100km.

Hi

If your getting 500km out of a tank thats great I am lucky to get 350 km out of a tank.

I personally think chipping or remapping will void warranty and possibly cause extra forces in the engine that it is not designed for although some exspurts may disagree.

The dmax engine has been pretty much unchanged for the last 10 or so years and will plug along all day and night and not give you drama.

If you want more power change to the new v6 ranger the dmax will never compete against it with its current 3.0 litre no matter what you do to it.

Any mods will give the stealership excuses to deny warranty claims even if it has nothing to do
with the fault you are claiming on. EG: Blown transmission but you installed a catch can.
Having had a chip and a remap, the remap option is much more advanced
and will give you more freedom to have a tune that best suits you.
Your biggest drama will be to find a competent tuner that can do that.
Easier said than done.
Roo Systems offer remaps for Lancruisers. Might be worth giving them a call.

Try Gympie performance diesel, just had mine remapped and a npc 1300 clutch installed on the V8 troopie. Very happy 15.5 ltrs per hundred towing 3.5 T van at 90 kph via the scan gauge with 285/75/16 tyres and 3.5 inch exhaust.

I dont know much but any of the above mods will effect warranty . Also more power will always equal more fuel

A common problem is auto transsmissions, until you learn how to drive without just leaving it drive, and the secondary issue is using cruise control when towing.

You need to drive car don't let gadgets do it for you.

I wish I could get that towing.

In my 2005 4.2td patrol towing similar weight van, I get about 18-20 litres /100 kms.

yes totally agree with tuneup over chip.

I put 3 exhaust, new injectors a run on the dyno tune. Heaps of improvement, especially towing up hills that I would have normally needed to drop down a gear.

Having more power available means you can achieve the same result using less throttle, but the extra power is available when you need / want it. My range has increased by about 20% since the tune up.

Hi Les That was your fuel usage in Litres / 100 klm before the tune and after the tune ?
