On my 2012 Windsor Rapid RAC442s in the front outside storage box there is a wired Anderson plug going into a wall panel marked SOLAR.
I have no idea what this Anderson plug connection is for, because no power charges the batteries if I connect a solar panel to this and checking my battery voltage meter.
Another Anderson plug inside same storage box successfully charges batteries via solar panel.
There is no voltage showing at this mystery Anderson plug.
I am an ex Windsor Rapid owner. Going by your photo it appears the van has been re-wired, as there would normally be wires coming from the other holes as well.
If the van wiring has been changed by a previous owner then it is anyone's guess what that plug is connected to. If you are not comfortable chasing wires around the van I would suggest that taking it to a professional may be the answer. That Anderson plug may have been used for the 12v supply to the fridge or maybe a ????
Do you know where the wiring goes from the car to the battery charger and fridge? Does your van battery charge when you are driving? Does your fridge operate on 12v when connected to the car? Have you had the van long? If not, can you contact the previous owner?
Hi Robert
Previous owner had no charging from car and this remains unchanged.
Yes fridge runs on car 12 volt when driving via the 7 pin trailer plug.
We have only had it for a very short time and previous owner was unsure also about this plug and took it to a professional who still was unsure what it was for.
It is rather hard to chase where these wires go as it is behind bulkhead.
So the mystery continues.
Cheers
Graeme
Hi Graeme, I would agree that the van has been rewired. I note that it is labeled solar and in the section of power in so my question is whether you have any solar panels on the roof.
The other possibility is that it leads to another Anderson connector located on the chassis somewhere for a portable panel to be connected. It would then have been connected to a device on the power out side to the caravan.
From the photo, and it may just be the angle but it looks like you just have a positive wire to the Anderson connector so can you confirm that there is a negative as well.
Hi Tim
No panels on roof.
Only panel is a portable folding one which connects to a different Anderson plug.
I will have another look if there is the other end outside the van on the chassis, don't think this is the case as I have not seen anything previously.
Re the single wire, it is wired with the standard 2 wires to the plug.
Cheers
Graeme
Well sorry Graeme I would have thought that it either went to roof solar or a portable panel connection given how it is labelled. Obviously not connected to the battery but I would take a look around that area to see if there any loose cable ends.
