Hi all I have a 2020 Jayco journey outback 16 foot. I have just purchased it second hand. The current gas struts designated 315 050 were not holding up the front window cover. I purchased from the gas strut guys two struts with the same specs and after installing them found that they would not hold up the front window cover either. I tested both sets of struts by vertically compressing them with a 5kg weight and allowed the struts to self extended to the 315mm All struts lifted the 5kg and surprisingly the old struts performed better than the new ones. I have contacted a few Jayco dealers who suggest I bring the van in. Given my distance from the nearest dealer I would like to sort this out my self. Does anyone have any thoughts please?
Could be misaligned hinges on the window cover causing too much friction. Although it would be quite heavy, can the cover be lifted up by hand?
Although you bought the replacement struts to the same spec, maybe you might have to go for ones with a higher rating.

Edit: Oops - re-read the post - the struts sag and are not freezing. In that case going for the higher rating might be the way to overcome the weight of the cover.

we had a journey with the same problem and i went thru the same mob and they supllied me with a set that had a bit more grut same lenght and they worked well
if try to go thru jayco for a set they want about 3 times the price
Hi Rabs,i replaced my struts on our 2018 Journey with longer ones due to prefering to see more out of the front window,but although longer the struts were rated at 150N.
Size was 8 x 19 365mm H6.kept the lower fixing point the same but moved the higher ones up a bit on the actual cover . cheers Andy .
Yes, the struts lose gas over a period of time. The effect is more pronounced in winter and is more often seen in cars with tailgates and bonnets slowly dropping down. With pop top caravans raising the roof takes more effort in cold weather. (Office chairs also lose gas - hence many end up in Salvo stores despite there being mobile businesses that do on site gas recharging.)
As Warren says, simply remove the struts and take them to a gas strut recharging station. It is cheaper than buying new struts.
