Hi Guys, Ive ordered a 1000w Renogy inverter and have downloaded the Aus and International manuals to check for any special installation instructions. In the international manual they issue a warning NOT to mount it on a vertical surface since it would present a hazard for the fan opening.
My previous 300 watt inverter was mounted horizontally on a vertical surface (if that makes sense) and I never had a problem. I suppose if the unit is mounted vertically with the fan facing upwards, any rubbish/dust/fluids etc could fall into the fan cavity and cause a problem. Unfortunately this is my optimal position.

So can you install it horizontally on a vertical surface? My belief is yes you can.
I have seen quite a few photos of them installed horizontally and with my Giandel it clearly states you can do it like that. I think it is just a poorly worded document but send an email to Renogy to check. The trouble you may get a non technical person replying and not really knowing the answer.
At the end of the day if you are unable to install it horizontally on a vertical surface then that becomes a severe restriction for choice of installation.

How about attaching a piece of angled metal above it to deflect anything that falls on it ... high enough not to restrict airflow. Or mount it the other way around with the fan at the bottom. Presumably this would lengthen the cabling however.
If you are mounting it in some compartment, maybe there is zero chance of something falling onto it anyway.
Looking at another manufacturer's mounting instructions, don't mount the unit with fan at the wrong end. Mounting the unit with the fan at the right end, they pointed out, the potential of things entering the unit.
