Travelling the Hume Hwy Melbourne to Tin Can Bay

Hi All,

My wife and I are new to caravanning, we've already done a shakedown trip with our new Xtour and now propose travelling Melb to Tin Can Bay via Hume. Looking for some advice on which caravan parks/towns for overnight stops?  Our current plan is to stop at Albury, Goulburn, Maitland, Port Macquarie, Gold Coast, Maroochy/Noosa then Tin Can Bay. Wondering if any of these places are too far off the highway. Thanks for any advice. Regards Paul.

I would normally say use wikicamps to find your info, but it is stuffed, so look at ExplorOz, or campermate, to Find them or just hope someone here CAN HELP YOU.

Pae, welcome to the forum.
As Ric has said Wikicamps is the best source of information about $10 for a lifetime download of information direct to your device. see www.wikicamps.com.au/

Welcome aboard Paul,

You are turning off to go to Maitland and then have to cross country to get back on to the Pacific Hwy.  At the end of the M1 turn right to Hexham and you pick up the M1 by going through Heatherbrae.  Unless of course you wish to visit Maitland.

Couple of Caravan parks in Raymond Terrace or some ppl free camp by the river.  There is a rest rest area on the M1 just north of the Medowie turn off or a caravan park in Karuah just north and off the highway.  If not free camping my choice would be Karuah.  Not much there but a quiet little town by the river.

Port Macquarie is well worth the trip off the highway.

Try and avoid Hexham bridge at peak hour.  smile

Tim
