440km (WLTP) What does it all mean ! The Worldwide Harmonised Test Proceedure measures the range of a car travelling at an average speed of 28.8 mph in summer temperatures from a 100% to 0% state of charge.
Where does the 440km come from, it the range of the long range MG EV with a 72kWh battery.
This appears to a bit of a furfy, 28.8 mph is about 46.3 kph, to get 440km, it would have to be urban driving with the aid of regenerative charging. How much of that would bleed off the range say running up the Bruce Highway from Gladstone 100kph, at a rough guess a bit over half the range could be compromised, that would put Childers at the extreme concern will I make it, perhaps a recharge at Gin Gin would be best, next Gympie yah nah better stop at Gunalda, then should be able to reach Brissy from there.
Why this post a friend who lives near Gladstone has just brought an MG EV Long Range and he ventures to Brisbane quite often, a normal Gladstone to Brisbane drive is 6 and bit hours depending on road works, I think you could add up to 2 hours to the trip depending on types of chargers available.
Surely this is a resonable question as to the suitability of an EV for rural use.
