I just traveled from Mareeba to Springsure, to Rockhampton and then up to Townsville. On the Kennedy Development Rd. North of Charters Towers I saw three of the signs. South of Charters Towers there were more of the signs. Still more on the Bruce Hwy. They were all where recent roadworks have been. The apparent age of the works related to the apparent age of the sign. At one point, just outside Emerald there were current roadworks in progress, only a few culverts and road markings to be completed. There were several new signs all with clearly, outlined in white, hinges. These were in amongst dozens of every conceivable road works signage. My conclusion is that it is the back of regular signs that have been covered up. Why, when they are not needed, are they not removed is beyond me.
