Service from Aus-Post.

Unbelievable service from the mob above. Ordered a 2 terabyte SSD from Sydney and it was dispatched on the 26th July. Arrived this morning the 10th August.

How's that for service! Absolutely hopeless, no wonder that they are in the red.

Are you sure it was actually despatched then? A very common practice from ebay sellers who do not have the stock locally is to create the shipping ticket before they receive it. That generates the notice to you that it has been shipped and satisifies the ebay shipping date target. Then when the item arrives in their warehouse from China via a bulk delivery they then package it and finally ship it. The first scan in Australia Post shipping is probably when they actually ship it. Check the online tracking.

Of course that may not be the case with your shipment. I am not defending Australia Post but apart from the occasional glitch they usually seem reasonable in delivery time. But they fall far short of Amazon deliveries. With most items it arrives in less then 24 hours from the time ordered... and I am in a regional centre ... Central Coast NSW. A couple of times I have ordered late at night and the item is delivered by breakfast time, so 8-10 hours. If they can do it, and cheaper than Australia Post why can't Australia Post?

Order stuff for my Land Rover from UK on Tuesday & receive on Friday.

It takes long to get stuff across Sydney.

Agree with AWL, Aust post reasonable for City areas, 2 deliveries a week in rural areas just OK. Most delays are at sender/supplier who claim ex stock then order from overseas.

I've had a number of parcels ordered where that has been the case, mostly from ebay which l've just started using again after a ten year break from dodgy sellers,

The most recent last week...12 days from Bris vegas to Tas is  too long.

Another possible way to check when it was actually sent is to check your bank account and see when they took ya money.

They took mine 6 days after ordering...which tells me they didn't actually have it in stock at the time...despite saying they did.

The item arrived within the AP delivery standard after that

That may help in some cases but it is still not when Australia Post received it. In the case of ebay I mentioned, the money is taken as soon as you click Buy. Most retailers do the same. Amazon is an exception.

For other retail sellers, they are not going to send it before they have confirmed payment. More likely they won't even start the process of getting it from the warehouse. So, usually a seller will take the money before doing anything. Then create the shipping docket which will usually be the time you are notified. But it is still not shipped. They need that printed shipping docket to attach to the parcel. Once the parcel is packed and the shipping docket attached, then it can be taken to Australia Post or picked up by them. That may be hours later, maybe days.

The only reliable way of knowing is checking the online tracking to see when Australia Post first scanned it.

At least twice to 3 times as long to get goods from the Eastern States into WA than it does from the UK. Very poor service.

Hi Phil,

Don't shoot the messenger!

If you had tracking you would have seen when AP actually took possession of the parcel.

If untracked, it's all guesswork how long the actual freight took.

As mentioned earlier Sellers' use this ploy often and the moment a purchase is recorded with a shipping docket it is shown on Ebay as being SENT. The item may not be authorised to be collected by AP for days or weeks.

 One goes by road,

The other uses planes.

You could get it sent from the eastern states by plane  but thats likely to be very expensive as well.

Anywho...l thought WA stood for Wait Awhile??

I had a medical procedure done in Sydney early this week. The instruction letter was sent the first couple of days of July, checked by phone call, and took exactly 14 days to get to my post box in the Riverina area. When I was speaking to the nurse on the phone I did mention the fact that if I drove down I would have had it the next day, not 13 days later. Sent date was confirmed on date stamp on envelope. Any wonder get the you know what's with them.

After two years on the Cape with average delivery times around 10 to 18 days, we are still enjoying generally faster service. Picked up an ebay order from our PO.Box today which arrived in 3 days from elsewhere in Vic, & another which took 4 days from NSW.

I was just giving a possible reason for this particular ebay sellers tardy response to my order.

Thats why l used the word ' possible ' in my post.

I buy stuff from online sellers as well and haven't had any late issues from those

Another ebay fail for me.

I'll just use online shopping if l can't find it locally.

This sort of ' it' s in the mail ' langauge some ebay folk use has been around since Moses wore short pants to try and blame any postal service around the planet for the late delivery or lat payment of a bill.

I'm well aware of Oz Posts procedures and logistics as l worked for them...in an operational ( coal face ) role...for decades.

Hi all, I had email from Auspost on the 27th July which stated the parcel was received by them. The parcel was tracked online. There was no movement until the 29th when they said it was on its way.

There was no further movement until they said it had been received in Melbourne on the 1st August. On the 6th they said it would be delivered Tuesday/Thursday 8th or the 9th. On Wednesday the 9th they said it would be delivered that day between 9am and 11 am.

It arrived today, Thursday at nine am. Maybe I was just unlucky?????? Either way from the 27th July to the 10th August is just not good enough in 2023.

In that case, I agree ... not good enough. However glitches in the system happen. I have had I think 8 items delivered by AP this year. One of them took about 10 days (all within NSW) because it went to Coffs Harbour by mistake.

The others were all reasonable (taking into account the ebay seller delays described above).

A couple of weeks ago my wife left some postcards for the grandkids with the reception desk at the Eucla Roadhouse. They said that an AP contractor would pick up the mail the next day but for safety reasons he would need to spend the night there before heading back to Norseman. They said from Norseman the mail would then go to Perth before heading back east. We got home only a week later and it had beaten us  - can't complain too much about that.

Wide range of experiences here, I notice, but over some year I needed, several times each week, to post contracts from various parts of Australia, spread over 3 states.

Not once did a contract fail to reach my office in Brisbane within a few days, so I have nothing but praise for Australia Post.

However, I have no idea why others have had to wait for deliveries. Cheers

A couple of years ago I bought a reconditioned car engine from a company in the UK.

It was crated, shipped, and delivered to my garage in Ballarat all in 7 days Amazing !!!.

I've given up working out how Aust Post works, their own drum it seems.
For the life of me I can't work out how some online sellers can consistently get stuff delivered within a few days where others can take weeks and yes the tracking shows AP has it within hours of me ordering and paying for it in both cases.
Some companies seem to have a direct line or priority somehow.

Recently some ebay sellers (who use Auspost) are advertising 3 & 4 day delivery times. Having received these sort of orders within the specified time frame & the parcels not being marked as 'express parcels' I too am at a loss as to how this works.

One of the biggest things I hate about Australia Post. They are one off the largest offenders of putting junk mail in your letterbox.

We know are postman very well. AP are contracted to deliver this crap.

I have had this experience sometimes too, and have come to the conclusion that it's not AP's fault.  The seller books the shipment well before he/she has the unit in hand to actually ship.  It looks like AP has it at that point, but they don't, until the seller gives it to them, and as you say this can take a week or two.  Once AP actually has the item then things speed up.  You might claim that it's AP's fault for allowing sellers to do this, but I don't see how they can prevent excessive delays between booking a shipment and shipment.

Yep, very good service from UK

UK passports are cheaper than Australian passports & better service when I renewed both of mine.

A hundred years or so ago London, pre other forms of communication, they had 4 mail deliveries a day.

 Correct.

The Tracking system needs to be updated to show precisely the time/date that AP courier physically picked up the item from the seller. I look at the Transit comment in tracking and that can be many days after I purchased the item because the seller did not have the item in his inventory.

I was wondering if it was the type of payments for normal/express delivery, etc

I normally buy stuff from eBay, and it comes from the east in about 10 to 14 days
(if the seller has lied, and the item was not in Australia), it can take up to 7 or 8 weeks

Last week, one of my daughters brought some stuff for me on Amazon, (she has Amazon Prime)
One parcel arrived (from the east) within 4 days, the other one has not arrived yet

I recently purchased 3 books from England

After a fortnight, the publisher got in touch with me, asking if they had arrived
He explained that if they had accidentally gone into (what he called the standard postage bin)
That it may be a 12 week postage time

The books turned up, 4 weeks after being posted

I've had an Australia Post account (via their app) for several years and use their post office collect addresses almost exclusively while we are travelling and never had any problems with reliability or timing that could be blamed on AP. BTW I get a fair bit of gear from Amazon Prime and it is always delivered by Australia Post

I've sometimes wondered whether I should leave negative ratings on EBay, since that's where this happens most otfen, for people to pull the "book shipping now, but actually post the item weeks later" trick. It seems that they do it so that they can promise fast shipping, which they appear to do, based on the date the shipment was registered with AP. But life is too short to argue about what are typically small value purchases.
