We love our fully self contained and off grid powered by solar slide on camper on our tiny AWD car licensed truck for its ability to get to so many spectacular free campsites. Better again is our very unusual 28 foot caravan that is also fully offgrid capable and gets us to amazing free camping sites of unbelievable beauty. It can also move between campsites using natures other free power source and provides experiences way outside those available via regular campers or caravans! Worth considering as an alternative way to grey nomad for the adventurous!
The slide on camper shown here at Lark Hart SA but several hundred metres away from the overcrowded free caravan camping spot as we could just drive off down a rough uncertain track and find a truly tranquil spot.
The unusual 28 foot caravan ( our Imexus 28 crossover yacht, powerboat, caravan shown in Hill Inlet The Whitsundays ) where we are at present free camping for several months out on The Great Barrier Reef.
Our entire package when using both together on the trip between southern SA and Arlie Beach providing a huge range of camping alternatives dropping off the yacht in storage when looking to do remote wilderness inland adventures.
Caravan Parks are quite the reverse of what we love about exploring Australia.
Trailer Sailor.
Looks great, makes an old fisho like me envious!!!
Will soon be wetting a line in the lake and streams of Beechworth.
How many evenings do you catch dinner?
On caravan parks, I was looking to go over to Benalla for a few days after my soon to be had Beechworth break.
The only van park at Benalla is $70 a night.
Highway robbery.
I think Ned Kelly still lives?
Just discovered the Glenrowan Caravan and Camping site and it looks a far better option.
Just rang them and went to message bank but 32 acres of bush on a powered site for around $30 odd per night sounds a far better proposition.
From what I can glean is, the only van park in Benalla is a G'Day park with all the bells and whistles.
Bell and whistles, one does not find appealing, more the Trailer Sailor surrounds.

Rmoor My fishing skills could do with improving at present with very limited success but our shellfishing has been an outstanding providing many of our meals.
I think a lot of the fish up here must already be very well fed as both a variety of lures and naturally collected baits have not raised much interest but perhaps its just me!
Last time we were up here commercial squid and prawns bait did yield some results but I decided with the length of time we are doing between resupply trips that steak was more important than bait this time.
Hi everyone,
Generally we stay in caravan parks especially if we're on the relative run (Toowoomba, Canberra, NE & SW Victoria). The car knows the way to the most economical parks & knows that it might have to keep going for just over 600kms in a day.
We try to avoid the super flash, expensive parks where possible but the Canberra Park, while offering many facilities is still cheaper than others marginally closer to our son (who has filled his footpath with a forest, making it impossible to park partially off his street).
Most of us live in states that have labor governments & they are generally broke - so the poor old retiree travelers on fixed incomes get lumbered with all the charges under the sun! I'm getting fed up with hearing on TV about the extra taxes that our mob have added to the miners, but it's true - several mines have closed due to the new economics.
We use free camping where we have to - my wife has a security worry & we don't like stopping early in the day just so we can get a spot on a riverbank, etc.
