         Except maybe lawnmowing contractors!

Yes, when I was a youngster everybody had a vege garden in the back yard, and my Father was forever giving away produce to neighbours and visitors, Cheers.

We have tried to grow a few things but we are always beaten to it by the possums.

yep My Father did the same.  I think that is where I got my love of gardening (& tools) from.

We always had a very large Vege garden that rotated with the chook run.

One of my afternoon jobs was watering the gardens, especial the bloody marrows that I hated but grew in profusion.  Mum wasn't the greatest cook & she boiled  the bejesus out of them.

My Father spent over 3 years as a POW in Singapore & I think that his survival to a large extent depended on gardening skills to ward off certain starvation.  For many years he had a pair of 'clogs' (carved wooden sole & canvas strip across the back of the toes as the upper) that he brought home & would always wear them when gardening along with an old slouch hat & a pair of long kaki shorts.  He just couldn't exist without his garden.   I still use the techniques that he taught me & some of his tools, only 70+ years ago.

I`m with you on this one Cupie ,my garden keeps me alive . Allways stuff to do ,although not so much now as we get away more .used to grow many hundreds of flowers and tons of veg . Now a 2/3 empty tunnel house with mainly succulants and my latest fad ,carniverous plants . As you ,still got loads of my dads tools ,(a couple of grandads too )all as original (no handles or heads replaced ,which will be passed on to at least one child who shows a keen interest .
Luv it . Andy .
