You can compete with the law. All the excuses you can imagine, dream up, manipulate cannot Trump the law, a magistrate will not hear of your reasons for not keeping a safe distance... it's part of being a professional driver Yobarr. "Wear and tear"??? "Extra fuel"? You have to be kidding me right? I can reveal I've sat in on a few hundred court cases in my working life and your so called common sense self elevating attitude would find you guilty as charged if you ran up the back of anyone... You can't compete with the law, period. No busts

Hmmm. If a 130 ton Roadtrain ran up your clacker I can assure you that there would be more than a few things 'bust'.

Your questioning my 'wear and tear' and 'Extra fuel' comments displays an absolute lacking of understanding of trucking.

I'll continue my work as a professional driver, and you can continue to potter around in your 750kg homemade caravan. OK?

Unfortunately, Ray, although I certainly agree that it would be a relief for everyone,  I am afraid that it is no more than an idle threat. Not a promise. Cheers

You did not say which state. Rules differ but that was probably not legal. In SA with a draconian rule of 25kph past flashing lights this could have cost you your licence on the spot, depending on actual speed.

In the hypothetical example I posed earlier, one of those 13kph cyclists could have fallen, or even been hit by the car that stopped. And the cyclist is just about to drag his bent bicycle to the side of the road, right in front of you as you swerve past the stopped car. How do you think you would fare in court?

I can accept there would be many frustrations on the road when driving a big rig, but a professional driver should deal with them.

Try to keep up Yobarr. The 750kg van I engineered and built we towed around Oz. Then built a 1000kg ATM Van and sold that last year, now own another van. I'm proud I had the knowledge to build lightweight caravans. For the sake of other road users please keep more distance from the car in front. I hit a wombat once in an old Zephyr. It bent the crossmember and rendered the car unable to be moved till a tow truck arrived. Another example of stopping in the middle of the road.

Can definitely see why the 'traffic' on this thread and several others has slowed to a crawl...

The abusive namecalling...let alone some individuals stamping their feet constantly because someone has the sheer
audacity to express a different view.

It must turn off new comers to this site.

Some of the serial offenders need a 'spell in the cells' me thinks

I do agree, however the main long term culprit that can't post without describing a driver as "no brains" when he isn't breaking any laws doesn't face any "naughty room". The abuse I received on my thread depicting less than 10% towball weight for lightweight caravans was sheer abuse and Cindy remove the attacks. I've learned over many years to defend, not with abuse but in these cases, the law as well as give an alternative opinion of which I'm entitled. But Yobarr has only one defence- abuse, insinuate you have no common sense and degrade. I for one won't tolerate it.

The resident Xspurt has I'm sure offended a lot of gay guys with his recent description too. Got away with also. He hasn't changed and sure he would get away murder.

I see his name and usually avoid any of his crap but it was suggested I take a peak at this thread.

I have an X son in-law that seems to be able to get away with everything he does or says and Yobbo seems to be the same.

I know a lot of great members that have left or just don't bother any more due to the know-all attitude.
