I believe that the program time to ad time ratio policing was handed back to the tv stations to be self-regulated sometime in the eighties.
They have a program that lasts x minutes. They then fit in ads to fill the time slot.
We watch free-to-air, but use the mute button to get rid of the noisy ads.
Just sometimes there is an ad for an item of interest at the time.
As for the news, it has to do with: a) Is it of statewide interest?
b) Would showing it prevent a sports item going out?
c) Does the item affect any of the advertisers/sponsors?
Better to watch the ABC with no ads, but a few promos.
Not wrong. I generally don't worry too much with things that may be considered prudish, but there is a chicken advert on TV where a clown on a skateboard steals a blokes chicken pieces off a park bench. I am on the verge of contacting the chicken restaurant mob and ask them if they are condoning theft? Reckon it sends a "great" message to the misguided youth of today.
I don't worry too much about adverts, they are in fact just a part of life, some are funny, some are ridiculous, one wonders what is in the minds of some of the latte drinking city type advertising "guru's". Best not to go there, probably a sound field of employment for sundry weirdo's.
The other one that has been attracting my ire is the post betting agency adverts. I use betting agencies and enjoy a bet on the geegees now and then and also like to take a money back multi on the footy when I am perched in front of it. For a few lousy dollars it adds a bit of spice to a game that may have blown out to having little interest in it. Each to their own, we all enjoy different things and what some of us do with our hard earned is no-one else's business. Besides, I do OK and in the last two years have bolstered my account with decent cash prizes in the "free" tipping contests, this year 86th out of 214,052 NRL tippers. Sometimes I can pick winners!!
This, funded by whom I don't know, negative advert campaign after betting agency adverts, is starting to annoy me. Too many bleeding heart, do-gooder, woke types think they can dictate to the world what THEIR beliefs are. A bit like the current referendum, every man and his dog are keen to shove THEIR theory down our throats.
We are all individuals and have our own entertainment avenues, beliefs and ideals, the anti betting agency mob are on the verge of getting a call to be told to mind their own business and to stick it where the sun don't shine.....

Foxtel is just as bad with its incessant self promotion. If you think Aussie adverts are bad, you should see US ads. The only companies who can affort to advertise are drug companies advertising their new drugs, and lawyers advertising that they are suing drug companies on their new drugs. After 6 weeks in the US we were yearning for a good washing powder advert.
