** Issue Identified ** - 7 pin flat plug not powering 12v fridge or 12v light switches (old school van)

** Issue Identified **

Issue has been identified. When I put my tow vehicle in reverse 12v is presented to the van for the 12v lights and fridge - Explanation below.

Thanks to those below who replied.

Hi all,

I have a old school caravan electrics question which I would appreciate some assistance with.

I have a 1994 Jayco caravan where the 12v is not working on the 3 way fridge and 12v lights switches.

The 7 pin flat plug that connects to the tow vehicles works correctly for towing operations - right/left hand indicators, brakes lights, etc.

However, the 7 pin flat plug is not working for the 12v fridge or 12v light switches (they have worked in the past).

There is no solar panels and solar controller, no batteries, and no invertor in this van, no Anderson plug.

I can not see any fuses in the van either.

Any pointers or ideas?  Appreciate any help - thanks.

It may not be hooked up, or if it is, the wiring is of a insufficient size and the fridge wont run. I don't know which wire in that plug runs the fridge, but you can look it up.

Do you have one of these installed in your van or anything similar?

There will be a fuse. Check first.

In the Land Rover Discovery for example, it's 30 amps, in a Land Rover Freelander it's 15 amps (my car).

Next step in the process, check with multimeter. I narrowed it down between fuse (I have checked all the way from the last socket) & the plug into fuse box. The circuit was burnt out.

The secondary fuse box (a tertiary one as well which powers critical stuff) circuit was open so I bypassed the circuit & added a new bypass fuse.

Don't open fuse box unless you are brave!

Three layers of circuit boards. Somewhere in the middle was the open circuit.

Not a difficult process, just simply tedious & expensive if you are not prepared to pay someone else to do it.

Infinitely cheaper to buy a multimeter if you don't already have one.

RE: RESOLVED - 7 pin flat plug not powering 12v fridge or 12v light switches (old school van)

Issue has been identified.

When I put my tow vehicle in reverse 12v is presented to the van for the 12v lights and fridge - Explanation below.

The tow vehicle previously used to tow this van had Pin 2 (black wire) on the 7 pin plug used as an auxiliary 12v power feed from the tow vehicle to the van (since the van doesn't use reverse lights).

The tow vehicle I connected to the 7 pin plug has pin 2 (black wire) set for the reverse lights. So the 12v to this terminal on my tow vehicle is only active when the tow vehicle is in reverse.

So you solved the problem by doing what?
