A Tesla storage battery located in a residential area is still burning while firefighters stand by and wait for it to burn out, massive clouds of noxious smoke and gasses that are fatal to humans in even small doses.
My point being that there is no way to control the battery fire unless you fully submerge the battery in a large tank of cold water, clearly this is only possible with mobile batteries such as those fitted to EV's, I'd like to know how many fire brigades, if any, have that equipment.
Quote of the year from Genex Power....." On advice from Queensland fire brigade and protocols provided by Tesla, the fire is being ALLOWED (I love that misdirection, they have no choice) to burn out under the supervision of the fire brigade " a spokesperson said.
Bolting these batteries to your house seems silly in view of the fact that they cannot be fought.
In that case your house will be burnt down, it is not possible to extinguish the battery without a large tank of water to immerse the whole battery in. It's also quite possible for a battery that has been fully submersed and cooled down to reignite sometime after being removed from the water tank. Insurance premiums may be affected.

Living in the bush is becoming more attractive every day!
With ambulance officers needing to now wear body-cams and stab-proof vests I wonder where we're heading.
Too many "do gooders" bleating about poor little Johnny coming from a "bad home", being exposed to drugs at an early age etc, and never being disciplined with the time honoured, and super-effective, belt around the ear from a Burly Policeman has resulted in a total lack of respect for anything or anyone, including themselves. Cheers

Couldn't agree more Yobarr (Gee!!) At 21yo and the youngest prison officer to ever be employed at the notorious Pentridge prison (1977) I learned one lesson while being there and the day I left- "if you cant beat them, get away from them".
While regional areas still does have a level of criminality it is much less that the suburbs. Now there is zero discipline. Like you I watch the news and the home invasions and wonder where the parents are?? So I believe that under 18yo if their teenagers are doing anything untoward they should hit the parents with a tax (the non proper parenting supervisory tax). Then they might think twice. Over 18yo old enough to vote, drive, then old enough to do some serious time in jail.

It never ceases to amaze me.You wouldn't get me in a EV.
Wazza..

My gut feeling is, (and I really have no way of knowing)
That there must be different types of lithium batteries
Or perhaps the same types of batteries/bms systems, not manufactured as robust as others
I have lithium LiFePO4 batteries in my RV
They appear to have cell balancing in the battery, plus an external battery control unit (BCU)
I purchased the batteries (locally to me), from EV Power in Western Australia
As I am concerned about lithium battery fires, I shall certainly name and shame, if my lithium batteries go on fire

The likelihood of LiFePO4 batteries causing a fire is vey low, but if a fire started around the batteries I would expect them to behave similarly to other types of lithium battery. The fire at Terry & Margaret's workshop in Mannum was likely exacerbated by oll the LiFePO4 batteries there. Fire fighters had little option other than to observe.
