Referendum wash up

Now that a few days have past...I've yet to see a interview by the mainstream media(I watch 10 and ABC) in any town like Alice Springs, Darwin, Cairns or any other locality with a Aboriginal population, to their response to the vote. Only interviews with the urban elite...both white and black.

There in lies the problem....very little contact with those who have been most dispossessed.

Collo.

With a 55/45% divide of the country I wouldn't touch this topic with a barge pole... Tony

My overall take from the vote is that aboriginal people don't know what they want. They appear to be content with complaining rather than taking advantage of the opportunity that was set up by their own council of elders and put before the nation by the government. AISI, the aboriginal "problem" is intractable. In fact I wonder whether I should care anymore.

Not sure where you get your 'take' from. Certainly not the same as mine. The results I posted above from Cape York, were mirrored in Arnhem Land & I believe across most aboriginal communities. The referendum didn't fail on account of the Aboriginal vote.

AISI, the overall indigenous vote was a 60/40 split between Yes/No. To me, that is a very disappointing result. While the overall No vote was inevitable, I could at least have derived some comfort and satisfaction if the indigenous vote had been a resounding Yes. Instead, I have much the same feelings that I had when the "do you want free and fair elections" referendum was defeated all those years ago, namely despair and futility.

Hi All,
Just a reminder that we do not allow political topics on our forum. Experience has taught us that these kinds of discussions lead to bad feelings and personal attacks.  Back in August, we posted a message outlining our policy of not allowing discussions about the Voice referendum as we considered this to be a political issue (here’s a link to that message for reference: https://thegreynomads.activeboard.com/t69792887/a-voice-thread-has-been-removed/).
Although I understand that some members may be keen to talk about the outcome of the referendum, this forum is not the platform to have that discussion.
We created this forum to be an inclusive and positive place for members to discuss the grey nomad lifestyle and although we now have subforums where people can discuss other issues, we would like politics to be avoided. Thanks for your understanding.
