I have an Adria caravan which has failed the gas inspection due to a bogus certificate issued previously. The defect list is such that it needs to have the gas system de-commissioned. Is it legal for me to simply de-register the van and sell it "as is, where is"? Can I do that whilst a defect notice for the gas system is still active? Any help appreciated.
Best to ask you motoring governing body in your state, but you can do what you say, so long as you inform the new owner and hand over the relevant defect notice to them, otherwise it would be a fraudulent sale. You will take a major hit in it's value if you do it this way.

Thanks for that info. I have a prospective buyer who has suggested to me the above process. I just did not know if it was possible. I know there is a devalueing side to this ( about $10k) but I am selling the van due to ill health. I simply do not have the time or ability to carry out the work myself and the cost of having it done professionally is not feasible.
Understood. I was referring only to de-commissioning which I understand I could do and then have it approved by the inspector who issued the defect notice.
