Another whinge - Victorian Country Roads

Victoria used to have some of the best roads, now they are full of potholes,it is a disgrace.

Went from Shelly to Walwa, about 30 km. potholes at the start and potholes near the end, like an obstacle course.

At least they give you a warning.

If it's a requirement for vehicles to be road worthy, then why isn't it a requirement for roads to be vehicle worthy.

The Melba Highway between Yarra Glen and Yea is a bloody deathtrap. We have cause to travel this road often and there will be a someone killed if nothing is done. There are warning signs everywhere so why not fix the problem??? Last week we travelled this road and wife counted the potholes between these two towns. She came up with 37 some of which were very deep.

We rounded a corner and there was a major hole in the road which we drove into, no way round it because by the time you saw it it was too late. We were in the Paj but the front end bounced so hard I nearly lost control. I thought of taking some pics but to step into the road at that point, would definately not be conducive to good health.

VicRoads should fix this pronto before some poor buggers get killed.

"by the time you saw it it was too late"

maybe they should just lower the speed limit then maybe we will be able to deal with the pot holes that they don't seem to be able to repair fast enough

Instead of lowering the speed limit why not fix the problem???????

For the record I was only travelling at 80kph.

maybe the speed limit should be lower than 80 kph until they fix the road and that maybe sometime in the distant future. until enough people complain or die or get injured it will be a low priority, a lot of trucks use that road so a quick fix patch job won't last long

Sorry Guys, but why bpenalise all motorists by posting a lower speed limit when the simple solution to your problem is for you to slow down?

Just another example of demanding that we ALL should cater to the lowest common denominator.

"If you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen" comes to mind.

Every day I drive my 3 trailer Roadtrain on roads that are in worse condition than that road appears to be.

Country roads always are likely to be in poor condition because there's simply not enough voting power 'In The Bush' to attract significant amounts of Govt money to those areas. Cheers

P.S If you want to see REAL potholes, try travelling the Dundas to Lake King road where potholes are literally 600mm deep, and MUST be circumvented.

speed limits are always posted bases on an average persons ability within limits in average conditions. so lowering to the lowest common denominator is not factored into it.

the road in question is a typical country road in hilly area, a lot of trucks use it as the back door coming/going out of Melbourne so the road gets a lot of heavy traffic that travel at speed so it does not take much for the road to deteriorate if not maintained.

comparing a remote fair weather road with a 5 ton limit to something that should be highway standard is not a apple for apple comparison

I wonder if the conditions of the roads in Qld, NSW, Vic and SA were the cause.

A couple of day before Xmas I had an issue, the Ute was pulling to the left and there was a ticking noise over 80kph, so last Thursday I called in to the local Cluse Brothers Tyrepower store in Munno Para to book in for a wheel alignment, balance and rotation, not a problem we can fit you in now.

The team commenced the job when the tyre fitter called me into the fitting bay to show me there was an issue with one of the tyres, it was out of round so rather than replacing that tyre I opted for 2 new one's, the good one of the two became the spare and the new tyres on to the front,  he checked the suspension and wheel alignment done now the Ute drives in a straight line.

It was the left front out of round.

Or " out of round "

So, plenty of choices, but by all means let us blame the ****ty rounds, because they are so.

I had a set of 5 Mickey Thompson, out of round from new. They replaced them without a quibble.
