Perhaps if they were not flat out handing taxpayer dollars to every power generation scheme with a hint of green attached to it, while shutting major coal fired generation plants down, we'd be better off.
I don't own a generator. I think I may get one. For when the power goes out. My van is well covered with solar for most things except Air-con and heating. So could come in handy. Could use the cost of living rebate towards that. lol
I got it. 125 bucks a quarter to make up the 500 bucks per year. Does help. Without it, it would cost a bit more. If on a pension you also get the concession for electricity & gas so every single dollar helps

Careful Peter, as there's too much thinking involved here for many to understand.
Meanwhile, China is buying up all our coal and building a new coal-powered electricity producing plant EVERY WEEK, I believe.
Climate change is the con-job of the century. Cheers
P.S OOPS I was mistaken. Each week China builds TWO new power stations!

China also has extreme air pollution, to the point where it kills a couple of million people per year. Not exactly an example I want to follow.
the reserve bank is lifting intertest rates to dry up the money that people have to spend, then the government comes along and gives tax money to the people to soften the effect of the rate rises sound so simple

With Australia producing a miserable 1% of total greenhouse gases it a bit of a joke closing our power stations while, at the same time, telling the gullible to purchase EVs.
Already there are summer power shortages but these clowns intend to reduce production while increasing demand. Derrrr.
Doesn't worry me as my car is diesel and my van is 100% solar powered, enough to run my 2.5kw AC 24/7 in summer.
There are no gas appliances in my van, all electric from my Solar and 5kw inverter.
Diesel heater serves me well in winter, and provides Hot Water as required.
It will be interesting to see what happens when all these Green-dreamers find that they can't charge their batteries.
So called "Climate Change" is the con-job of the century.
You can fool some of the people all of the time, OR
Firstly, I did not put this mob of clowns into power to run our great country.
But, the fact is that we elect our government to run our country, for the betterment of all Australians, not to have their own personal agenda to give them the glory and to feel that they are the High & the Mighty.
They believe that they are an expert.
But an expert is
an ex .......is a has been
a Spirt .....is a drip.

Of for a leader with the qualities of President Ronald Reagan.
Maybe you would rather the Clowns lead by the greatest con man of them all - Morrison who has had enough of sucking the public teat & is off to a couple of Ultra Right wing Study / Policy Advisory groups. Finally found someone who will employ him. He'll fit in well to any possible future Trump administration. God help us all should that happen.
'Oh for a leader with the qualities of President Ronald Regan.'
We should have the cheapest power in the world with all the gas energy that sits unused below us and out in our oceans, the 100's of years worth of coal, the huge reserves of uranium that the Labor / Greens intend to leave in the ground. We are paying the price for their ridiculous goal of net zero whilst the majority of the world laughs at us shedding all of our industries and making life much more expensive than it need be, all because a very small MINORITY of Australians reckon we should lead the world in this insane pursuit! And all the time they hypocritically allow the export of mega tonnes of gas and coal for others to use cheaply.
If you need an example of the numbers just take a look at the posts above on this topic, well and truly AGAINST this climate cult and it's fantasy goals. The silent MAJORITY have got to get un-silent or else they will lead us to hell.

How on Earth has this allowed to happen? Too much thinking involved for many to comprehend.
Sad. VERY SAD, although at my age it probably won't affect me too much.
Very concerning that this minority of intellectually challenged individuals has managed to negatively influence huge numbers of people, particularly younger people. NO CHEERS HERE.

I wrote a strident response but in the interest of forum decorum I deleted it.
Sufficient to say that I couldn't disagree more strongly.
That's a shame Cupie, everyone has their opinion and I normally enjoy yours, I just cannot see how this climate alarm-ism is any benefit to this country and the abatement of our paltry amount of total emissions is not going to do ANYTHING but make this wonderful country third world.
As an indication of the inequity and dumbness of it all, Brazil with 206m people dropped their emissions by 6%, yep power bills going up and industries starting to struggle, Indonesia with 260m population INCREASED their emissions by 6.5% in the same period, no doubt increasing industry and output at the same time, who is the MUG?
The big world emitters still emit, China increase their emissions by an Australian emissions total every year, India, Russia, USA, Japan and Germany are the other leaders and they absolutely dwarf our emissions whilst we save the world all on our own and shut down our economy and ruin our children's future (although the lefty academia teach them how wonderful and noble it all is), what BS!, really, what the hell are we doing?

I too have my suspicions about the climate change activists. They seem to thrive on propaganda. They are not unlike the ABC news channel on Australia Day. I had to turn them off this morning, they could not be more un-Australian and biased reporting that is purely propaganda and anti Australia Day rubbish as any TV channel can be. How is that allowed to happen? Constantly in tandem with constant climate change banging on B.S. at the ABC?
Having said that, I am a proud Australian and I love the bush. When I go fishing, I take everything home with me to the (landfill) bin and also any other discarded bottles, chip packets, bottle tops I can find in my immediate vicinity.
I don't know about climate change. There are arguments both ways, but I have taken the stance that if you can do something better, then do it.
Our local community is hammered with solar farms and wind farms and a massive renewable building program "Twiggy" is building just out of town.
Also Burrendong Dam is to have a storage dam built in the hills on the Mudgee side and water fed up and down to support the grid with Hydro power from our local dam.
Our town/region is an energy hub because we have the big lines from the bush to the Hunter to feed all this wind, solar and hydro power into greater populated areas in the east.
Again, if you can do it better, do it.
Solar car. Do it. Electric car. Do it.
I am each way on this topic, but if one can act responsibly and change habits for the better, then do it.
As long as they stop destroying local arable farm land and were directed to use non-arable land instead. These overseas owned companies contracted to build the local solar farms pick the best dirt for easy digging so they can make a quick buck and then p*ss off with the profits and leave us with increased electricity bills to compensate for these scammers.
There is an elephant in the room no-one seems to be aware of.
Growth.
Our economy, all of the big economies in the world rely on survival due to continual growth. This economic growth keeps the black dog recessions from the door.
The difficulty with this is, if every country aims for 2 - 3% growth every year, each year they are looking at higher growth coming off a BIGGER base.
With continual growth, and with it comes more homes, more power required, more jobs, more power required, more industry, more power required, where does it stop or slow down.
Answer : It doesn't.
Continual growth will counter any efforts to reduce the effects on the climate.
As population and growth increase annually, the corresponding effect is more pressure on our little fat already over-populated world stuffed full to the seams.
Are these climate activists fighting a battle they cannot win? Are they correct to a degree?
They probably are, but even simple old continual, habitual economic growth will eventually be the bane of humanity.
As I often say, so many cannot see the forest for the trees.
Per capita is a catch-cry of climate cultists in this country because they can hang their hat on Oz being high per capita. Of course we are high per capita! We have a relatively small population spread over a huge, huge country, all needing power regardless of how many kilometres you have to transmit that power, transmission losses are heavy and thus you need to produce more emissions to account for those losses.

I could have written those same words myself.
It does not matter if you are a believer in climate change or not. Why should we disadavantage ourselves on the world stage when our efforts will mean nothing?
China our near neighbour is not our friend. While we are working to improve our footprint it does not come free. Consumer electricity costs are just one small part of the huge cost of doing this. So our huge rival is laughing because we are weakening our economy while they are strengthening theirs.
And nobody talks about the root cause. Population growth is the root cause of all this pollution and emmissions yet nobody is talking about reducing numbers. In Australia we reward families for having large numbers of children. Give the bonuses for the first child, but no more after that.
Why does nobody ever talk about the business case for emissions reductions? What major business project was ever done without a cost/benefit analysis. What will spending all this money actually achieve? So the biggest project ever for this country and we have no definable benefits of what WE can achieve. It makes no sense.
Australia's contribution if our most optimistic targets were achieved would not even make 0.01 of a degree difference in temperature.
Surely we would be better off realising that our efforts would be better spent in dealing with the impacts rather than a wasted effort. Like trying to stop the tide coming in. You can't stop it, but you can prepare for it and plan accordingly.
Houses are still being built on prime farming land, and in hot arid areas as well as those where flooding could be a problem. There should be incentives to live in more temperate zones and move away from the hotter areas.
More focus on home and office design to better deal with heat. Why can you still build a house with small eaves?
Incentives for farmers to change their choice of crops for sustainability in a hotter environment.
While solar, wind farms and EV should be in the mix, they do little to help us deal with a hotter future, so should not get prime focus.
So, make the focus on living with it, rather than a wasted effort in trying to stop it.

Why can you still build a house with small eaves?- Wrote Are We Lost- getting that way as well
Because developers have shrunk the house block so much, they build to and beyond the boundary line, no room for eaves. All with Governemnt blessing as well.

Yes, any developer knows that a little money "under the table" can significantly simplify the application process, and the regulations and by-laws that need to be adhered to, along with the interpretation of those regulations and by-laws. Cheers

The most puzzling and neglected problem in this GREEN ENERGY equation is VEGETATION...with massive increases in population across the globe, trees are being knocked down in their millions, plains are being cleared and developed at a increasingly rapid pace (some even with solar farms), to me this totally negates the natural process of NATURE itself. Trees and rainforests 'absorb' CARBON DIOXIDE (the very thing that we are attempting to remove) and via chemical synthesis, produce and release OXYGEN, the life blood of life itself!?!?
At the end of the day, we are actually attempting replace nature with a clone.
Sounds very much like a dog chasing it's tail to me...then again, that's only my opinion and I'm just an old retiree, viewing life from a quiet relaxed and lofty perch after spending a lifetime working in the REAL WORLD.
