Can anyone suggest where to buy second hand books. Favourite authors are Gregg Herwitz, Michael Connelly, Alafair Bourke and Lee Child.

If you are ever in a town when thy have their Lifeline Bookfest that's a place to go, but give yourself time as books come in categories but not author order. Our Lifeline Stores have very big book sections too, but not just before their bookfests.
The two biggest OP shops are the Salvos and Vinnies. Of the two the Salvos seem to have the largest selection of books.
There are a number of smaller OP shops around - Red Cross, Cancer Research, RSPCA, Anglican and so on.
While in the Salvos stores stock up on DVDs - prices generally range around $2 each! But often they are not sorted so you have to go through heaped piles to find ones you want.
I have tried the full range of Opp shops where prices & volumes vary considerably as do the sorting systems.
My favourite was Salvo's shop at Underwood that had them sorted by Author alphabetically and best of all, priced them at $5 for a shopping bag full. Once that pricing special ended they became $2.50 each.
That drove me to the Lifeline Opp Shop across the road where they too sort by Author but sell at $1 each. Was disappointed recently when just before the Bookfest the usually good stock level plummeted to almost nothing. Just when I needed a new stock!
If I want a particular book I go to a second hand book shop at Mt.Gravatt which sells at about $7 per book & has a fantastic range.
I'll soon have to part with my extensive collection contained in 3 chock a block Billy Book cases (plus lots more in a storage cupboard) when I hopefully downsize the house.

Thought I hit the jackpot when I located a full set of "Vera" DVD's for my travel entertainment.

ABC iView gives access to Vera episodes too.
I like DVDs though and often watch the 'Yes Minister' series.
BTW .. just finished watching all the series2 of Muster Dog .. great program.
WRT free book downloads ... my kindle is that old that it is no longer able to download stuff. Have a PC App that allows me to, so all OK.
We are into downloaded audiobooks. We joined the local library and can get up to 15 books at a time. If you use an APP to listen to the books they expire after 2 weeks. I don't do that, I have to store them on the laptop computer initially and then transfer them to the smart phone (usually about 6 books at a time). They don't expire in that case. When we have listened to them I delete them from both the phone and computer. Over time I have built a library of dozens of books waiting to be listened to. We can travel for months without running out of books.
