Just caught the end of a story on TV that seems to have featured surfers and other swimmers discussing the availability of "Shark Proof" body suits for use in the water, at a cost of $1500 each.
As always the cry now is for the "Gummint" to subsidise these suits, with the designer/maker/ supplier offering enthusiastic support on TV for such an idea. Who woulda thought?
For heaven's sake, if these people want play in the sharks' domain that is their business, but surely they shouldn't expect the "Gummint" to use OUR (taxpayers) money to help them enjoy their sport. Spare me.
Waaaay better to build a few houses for homeless folk perhaps? NO Cheers here.
I would agree to subsidies, or even outright full payment, for those people involved in beach patrol and rescue operations.
YES, absolutely. But NOT for every Tom, Dick and Harry who wants to be able to play in the water, and expects the Gummint to hold their pretty little hands. Waaay too much "Gimme" in demand in Australia. NO Cheers here.
" I need FREE life jackets for my fishing activities". People want to engage in known risk activities, but we have to pay ? Paul Hogan used to play a part known as Leo W..... !
