If Two-way valve (on regulator) is in between direction of arrows both bottles are open to it. If valve is in one direction and gas comes from other bottle - Turn off and have gasfitter change regulator assembly.

If you can't remove a bottle and switch to the other it's faulty and needs to be replaced.

G'day Ken,

I have just recently changed regulator, direction valve and hoses at gas bottles, after 10 years. I thought it wouldn't hurt. I noticed a BIG improvement in performance of all gas appliances. A good move I reckon.

Keep Safe out there.

Spot on.  I had issues with my gas HWS.  Pilot would work but main jet wouldn't come on reliably.   After a lot of stuffing around I replaced the whole regulator assembly.

The 'expert' at the specialist gas fitting shop said that regulators aught to be replaced every 5 years.  It seems that they clog up with the additive that is used to provide the gas odour.

We called our friendly certified mobile Gasman when I thought maybe after 6 years of owning a 2012 built caravan, just maybe it was time for the gas system to play up.

I did notice the last time I removed the hose from the empty bottle there was a small amount of pressure which I justify as the need for the Gasman expense.

I elected not to put a new 2 way tap on or purchase 2 new hoses.

Gasman fitted 1 new hose, adjusted and serviced the 10 year old regulator, plus checked checked all the appliances.

The $200 plus, I thought was great value, peace of mind considering it was 6 years ago Gasman did almost the same work and we have about 150 nights a year in the caravan mostly unpowered relying on gas for refrigeration and cooking.

PS. My argument for 1 hose is at some point you need to disconnect that hose to change the gas bottle.
