Tailgate dampers/ gas struts Mazda BT50 2023

Hi everyone

I have just purchased a 2023 Mazda BT50 twin cab. The tailgate does not have the usual cable retainers, but does have folding bars.I want to keep the bars in place, as I think they are stronger and more reliable.

The BT50/Isuzu Dmax are said to be the same, built in the same factory but with minor differences etc,.

Mazda and Ford used to be the same up until 2020 .Then Mazda joined up with Isuzu.

Has anyone fitted tailgate dampers/ gas struts to a late model BT50, and if so where are they available. I could buy some for a Dmax, but dont want to get them, then find they dont fit ( money and time wasted exercise)

I saw on YouTube a quality comparison on different struts, (which was a bit of an eye opener)which proved to me dont buy cheap.

best regards and be safe out there

Snubby

Responding to the quality issue, rather than BT50 specific, I just fitted Grunt easy up, easy down for my PX2 Ranger. There is a spacer to keep one of the struts extended until fitted. I forgot to remove it and accidentally bent the shaft.

Straightening it was easy ..... it was a little stronger than a wet noodle. I don't know how you would determine you were buying quality.

I have had the Grunts on for 4 years, they have worked well and are strong enough for the purpose.

I bought a pair of boot door struts for my Land Rover from Sparks Autos in May. Ok not that old. But at $44.00 a pair, & they looked no different from the Land Rover originals. No complaints yet.

Hi everyone, many thanks for your replies. I enquired at the Mazda dealership and I was gobsmacked at the price they wanted,$462 for the kit(2 cables 2 struts). Ill have a look at them, maybe they are gold plated.
Ive seen Grunts on eBay, problem is cables and struts are different lengths, there seems to be no uniformity with different car brands.
We will soldier on.
Regards

The Grunts come with cable, you need to get rid of the existing plates, the cables are necessary as they fold away from the strut. Just as strong.

The cables are necessarily longer than the struts.

On Grunt website $299.
