Why Is It?

Why is it that no one just has everyday experiences in life but has to be on a "journey"? Why can't people enjoy their occupation or at least be satisfied with it without having to be "passionate"? When something good happens why can't we just be happy instead of being "humbled"? Why is everything described as a "nuance"?

More so, why do I need to know about Harry and Meaghan's everyday issues, every day of every week, every week of every month, every month of every year?

Where are the "gruntled" employees? When did this word fall out of favour?

https://www.thefreedictionary.com/gruntled

As I see it, an overuse of superlatives lessens their meaning over time. For example, what does "awesome" really mean nowadays?

Because we live in a facile, superficial society that laps up this trash media reporting. Lord Rothermere (one time owner of the Daily Mail) once said, "If they want it then  print it".

Same said paper should now be called The Daily Crap because that's what it is and, they are not on their own. Australian commercial tv are not far behind with all the rubbish that they screen day after day constant dumbing down of the viewers. But hey! wait a minute, if folks didn't watch it it would not rate and if it didn't rate there wouldn't be advertisers and, if there are no advertisers????????

So DMaxer, I have to agree with you on this topic and I haven't mentioned that present day scourge on man/womankind called Social Media.

Nuff sed.

I find it funny that many do not accept that this forum, and others like it, are part of the social media network!

Just Google a definition of social media.

Ian, Surely you cannot put this forum on a par with the likes of Facebook,X, Instagram et al? I have been a member here for over ten years and have yet to see teenage thugs posting videos or people posting pictures of some unfortunate persons problems on here. Yes, technically, the forum is part of social media, but operates with vastly different standards to the aforementioned anything goes brigade.

On a lighter note if one of our members decided to put a nude pic of themselves on here, (perish the thought!!) how long do you think it would stay up? ( the picture that is) The folks in our Moderators office would be swift to act, after they stopped laughing.

I assume Ian, that you were simply making a point rather than a comparison?.

Hi,in reply to DMAXER etc.As a human with your own brain, you can choose just how much of society you want to engage in,its simple just totally ignore any crap that doesn`t interest you.We ( me and the missus )for example ignore all the general daily news unless somethings actually happening now that will affect our life today! All social media stuff, you know the well known ones are simply not part of our lives .
Wonderfully enlightening and restfull just to live for the now,and not give a stuff about the rest of the world, its problems, and its stupid `look at me `obsessed idiots.99.99999% of which you cannot alter so why bother .
Cheers,and rock on,Andy.

Yup, used to be a gay old time on the Fred Flintstone show.

ps, the ginger whinger may be in trouble if Trump gets in. Seems he fibbed about not taking drugs on his US application for a residents permit, and in his book states openly that he did.

pps, thank you Dorian, I feel very gruntled now.

Phil,

as you say it was purely to make a point that avoiding Social Media is very difficult.

That said, you are correct that this site does not see some of the more extreme self indulgent and offensive things the world wide sites do draw (especially the photos you mention thank goodness), probably due to the more mature age of the posters. Saying that though, sometimes the behaviour does remind me of petulant kids who havent got their own way.

Like you, I think Cindy does a good job keeping the site reasonably clear.

I see things differently. On Facebook say there is an article about the terrible Bondi tragedy 6 days after the event. There will be numerous posts saying "give it a rest".. when it takes far more time to post that, than it does to scroll to the next article. Odd eh? When some of us get older little things begin to irritate us. I'm no saint in that, the mispronunciation of "important" (as impordant) often by educated journalists eats at me. There are many others but language evolves and what's the harm.? Better for me to accept that it's the way of the new world, it's how the young want it even if it mirrors laziness. Our difficulties are more likely in ourselves that the world changes faster than our ability to keep up. Tony

Another gripe. AFL superlatives used by commentators /News readers et al.

"Blockbuster". Used to describe any game that includes two teams even if they are both at the bottom of the table.

"He has lowered his eyes" This means he not looking skyward? (Thanks Lingy!)

"Great goal! Oh, he missed it" Case of tongue being ahead of eyesight.

"Dream come true" used by all other athletes as well as footballers.

"They are a quality team" Generally used after being beaten by the other side.

The Coach, "We didn,t kick straight" Said after a 50 point loss.

Then there's the after match player interview. "The boys played well" Boys????

Last but not least there is this little gem. "He's running on top of the grass" Hello?????? Just proves that nothing is beyond our AFL players.

In case you are wondering yes, I LOVE the game. Carna Cats!

Eaglemax

I am with you on "impordand" as I often hear it.
Two of the best exponents are Airbus Albo and a former female NSW LIB premier.
Cannot even speak the English language in it's proper form, yet are considered as "leaders" in our society.
A recent former ALP leader used to say "togevver".

The other one that gets me with newsreaders or highly remunerated morning show presenters is "next jeer".

Why the Impordand "T" and the yearly "Jeers" have become a regular part of out language defies belief.

It is becoming impordand they learn to speak pwoper next jeer as we are all in this togevver.

Winston Churchill and Albert Einstein both had severe speech impediments but seemed to get by. Apparently it has nothing to do with intellectual capacity. In fact, it is usually a symptom those of higher intellect display. I remember Malcolm Turnbull was a good orator. Besides getting rid of our worst PM in history, please remind me what else he achieved. I cant seem to recall.

Really? You post your politically biased opinions or make your far right dog whistles and when someone shortens you right up you get offended. I probably could make an argument for most things but I think I would struggle when it came to you.

Gaslighting?? perhaps in the interests of climate change you could convert Dmaxer from (gas) to run on Paraffin oil. One large tablespoon before bed and the symptoms should slowly fade.

Obviously, I have no comeback when the forums metaphysician unleashes his rapier wit. I am totally speechless in the presence of the great man of thought.
