Bike security

I've heard that if you carry bikes on the front / back of your van and duck off to the local pub for dinner, they bikes may be gone when you return. I've even heard that thieves in some places use bolt cutters to cut chain. Does anyone have any suggestions re bike security? (I don't have folding bikes so can't out them in the van). Thanks

Might help, might not. Take your front wheels off and store them in the van.get some quick connect nuts to make it easier.

Good idea.  Do the same with the seat.  Mine had quick connect nuts as standard.

Bolt cutters are too heavy, I have a set. A 10.8v angle grinder is more portable. Two & quarter inch galvanized tube. Two minutes first cut, four minutes second cut, seven minutes third cut, as the motor warms up. I did use it to remove an old rusted bike from our block of units, just a couple of seconds, not even worth using my 18v angle grinder!

We have a cable with 120db alarm on our ebike on the bike rack on our Sprinter campervan, also other tie down methods. If available I back the van close to a scrub/brick wall, makes it hard to get access. You could also use those Apple Tracker disc's to find it, hide under the seat. If costly ensure its covered by insurance, From memory Ken Tame Insurance/CMCA only cover the ebike when its on the bike rack. ( but u need to confirm).

There have always been thieves among us. Folk who think it ok to take what doesnt belong to them.

Perhaps we have been lucky, but in all our years travelling we have never had a single thing stolen.

We dont leave tempting stuff' out on display & we tend to avoid crowded & busy places as much as possible.

I suspect most thefts occur in the most used places.

Do you have covers over the bikes - Im guessing it might reduce temptation?
