Yes Doug, I was there that fateful New Years Eve that ruined everything, and it wasn't as bad as was made out. At least where the Grey Nomads were parked up. There was a bad incident where an ambulance was called though and fireworks were set off. All locals.
Those were the days.
The water company draining the lake, shutting it down, restricting stays and putting in infrastructure didn't help either.
But as to why we, "The Grey Nomads" do not go there as we once did, for me "its not the same". I won't find anyone there I know anymore.
I also "flew the coop" if you like. Did the big lap and spent a lot of time in QLD and NT. But, it is now time to begin exploring places a little closer to home again. Going away for 7-8months over winter is now out of the question. There are too many doctors appointments to go too far away.
Which is why I asked, what is the percentage of The Grey Nomad members that are actually out and travelling around or are they, like me (temporarily) "keyboard warriors" for a variety of reasons. I feel that has changed as well. Maybe demographic changes also play a part.
Hi, msg. I didn't talk to them all but two lots definitely were on tour. Some others were away in their vehicles leaving their vans and camp set up. One other was a regular visitor who l believe lives in his rig. Most greens regulars would recognise his rig. There was a camp that was very weathered, my first though was are they living here? I'm going past again next week so hope to discover if people are still being moved on.
Since there is a lack of new posts l thought l would report on the quick look at a few camp spots l passed recently. English Bridge, just one unhappy snake sunning themselves. Greens lake wet, windy and muddy. A couple of die hards toughing it out. Greens Camp Whroo, nobody home. I stopped for lunch here during a sunny break from the rain. The forest looked and smelled beautiful, well worth a visit during spring.

Thanks for that info.
Kyffins Reserve, Mulwala, on the lake worth a look, heaps of space for free camping. Bitumen all weather track through the 1km shoreline reserve. No amenities but very close to Mulwala/Yarrawonga for water/dump/gas/supermarkets.
No GMW camp police flexing their authority.
Further away you have Ararat, Donald, Charlton & Hopetoun with lakes, many with great facilities and close to towns, more so than Greens.
In two weeks I am heading off somewhat further to Mitchell, Qld, for a couple of months to catch an early Summer.
