Corelle plates

Wondering how well Corelle dinnerware withstands the rigours of the road.

Being glass, do they need to be padded between plates to avoid breakages?

I use them and find them great. Fairly light and thin for stacking. They do well in the microwave although I would not cook on a plate. Stored laying flat in a drawer I have never used anything between them when travelling.

They are very break resistant and will probably survive a drop onto a caravan floor from the benchtop. I have done that. But at home I dropped one on tiles and it shattered into a thousand needle sharp shards of glass. With that proviso I thoroughly recommend them.

We have had ours since we bought the van in 2010. Lightweight and tough, designed to be break resistant, ours are simply stacked in a top cupboard with nothing more than non slip matting on the bottom of the shelf. We would have travelled over 150,000km in that time and have done huge amounts of corrugated dirt roads and have never had a single breakage.

Ditto.

Our 4 piece Corelle dinner, side and desert plates have all survived full-time travel since 2003 draw stacked in 2 piles with nothing between them

No breakages.
They all still look perfect.

I had Melamine for many moons and suns but not that long ago changed to Corelle. Reason, Melamine couldn't go in microwave but Corral can. I only have 2 plates and 2 bowls though. I have 2 'real' mugs and glasses though. I wrap the 'real' ones in non slip mat.

Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

I have a mixture of melamine and Corelle. Having something that can go into the microwave is handy. Corelle is hard to break, but I have seen the odd report or two that when it does, it shatters into shards, which is not good.

Another vote for Corelle.

We have had our set since we fitted out the van in 1999 and have used them consistently with only one breakage from dropping.  (4X each of .. large & small dinner plates, bread & butter plates, small dessert bowls, large & small soup etc. bowls.  Too much I know, but what the hell.  We also carry cutlery sets for 4 and wine & tumblers for 4.

We like them because of their 'feel'.  They are real plates not like the plastic alternatives and they are not too heavy.

As mentioned by others the method of storage is probably important ....  see attached photos of our storage method.   We have lots of cupboard space and used these modified display frames that we picked up at a hardware store for about $1 each, all those years ago

Our Corelle just rides stacked in a drawer. Fantastic stuff. Wouldn't use anything else in the van.

Best dinner set you need for caravan travels. I wish SWMBO would accept them for our normal household dining.

We have used for 16 years in our van, and longer at home. Very happy with them. They do shatter if dropped on their edge. We did it once.

I love my Corelle crockery and no damage in the drawers.
