Good afternoon fellow travellers. I am from the Sunshine Coast Qld travelling solo. Spent a few weeks near Victor Harbour SA with my daughter over Xmas/New year. Ready to move on. Ferry booked to Tassie 26/2 so I have about 3-4 weeks to get to Geelong. Thought I might follow the mighty Murray, turning South at Echuca down through Bendigo, Ballarat to Geelong. However, know nothing about the route or where to head to from Victor Harbour. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Leaving Tuesday 25/2 morning. Thanks.
There are places all along the Murray that are great to stop.
In SA, Morgan nice caravan park on the river, Berri, Renmark Big 4 here is probably the best park we have stayed at. Right on the river and beautiful park, Mildura, Swan Hill and Euchca all have pleasant places to stop by the river and all have attractions worth seeing.
It is a very pleasant part of the world.
If going through Swan Hill, take a little diversion to Lake Boga and have a look at the Flying Boat Museum if you are into that type of thing. They've painted the silos since we were there also. South of Euchuca is Rochester also with painted silos and now at North Geelong too. As Greg 1 said there is plenty to see, but it is up to you what you want to see and do as we all like different things. Cheers.
From Adelaide I'd probably head out to Mt. Barker, Murray Bridge, Karoonda (silo art and night show on the silos) up to Berri, Renmark, Paringa (silo art) then across to Mildura etc. It's been a long time since we've been that way so I'm not up to date with recent road conditions. Or if you don't need to head to Adelaide from Victor Harbor I'd probably head across to Strathalbyn and across country to Wellington, etc. Again, I.m not a local so haven't been that way either for quite awhile. Cheers.
Rochester is a nice destination as Gaylehere mentioned.
I find all of those small Murray River locations all very friendly and welcoming.
Played over 60's cricket in the state carnival in Victoria last year based at Echuca.
Where matches were we played were at at Koondrook, Nathalia, Rochester and all were great locations.
I based myself over at Moama in the van right on the Murray River at Coco Bend.
They are really friendly there and the campground (with power) is very spacious.
Which I like and each year I go to that tournament I base myself out on my own at the top end of the dam/lake.
Nice and quiet, peaceful and the management are very accommodating.
I intend to do the Wentworth to Wodonga tour of the Murray down the track.
Most likely with a set of golf clubs and multiple fishing rods.
