has any one used a zipper repair kit to fix a broken zipper

I have sewn new zips into a few cushions. Lining up the start was a bit painful, but once the start was done the rest of the zip was easy to sew. Did it on a really old sewing machine.

Probably it would have been best to sew the first cm by hand to position it properly.
