I bought one of his books at a local bookstore recently and haven't read it yet.

From what I can glean it is very funny along the lines of his sense of humour.

Sad loss, great man.

Rmoor.

He was standing at the other end when Warney bowled that "impossible" ball to Gatting. His account of that event on Parkinson's show is very funny.

I heard a story that he was umpiring at the bowlers end when Bradman was batting. First ball hit his pads, Dickie said not out. Second ball, same. Third ball same. Fourth ball Bradman got a single. Bradman looked at Dickie with a puzzled look and in his Yorkshire accent said Son i came out here to watch you bat and winked.

His account of Michael Holding bowling Tony Greig after Greig had made derogatory comments regarding the WI is hilarious. As to umpiring a Bradman innings, well he didnt start umpiring until 1970s, well after the Don had retired.

I dont think there was a bowler capable of striking him on the pads with three consecutive deliveries. They were all capable of finding the middle of his bat though.

My late security guard mate was once minding an old Crockett bat Bradman used on a tour of England.

When he invited me in for a look at it, the bat was in good condition, but the middle was nearly completely disintegrated.
