Gee that's expensive!
When I transferred to Darwin in early 1969, petrol was 20c a gallon in Adelaide; in Darwin it was 25c a gallon & like today, the fuel came from Singapore.
The hardest part was at Newcastle waters where they had one of those hand-pumped bowsers where you had to estimate how much fuel you needed & pump the amounts into glass bowl at the top of the bowser & then empty it into the car's fuel tank.
Those were the days!

When I first started to learn to drive in the very early 1970s, I call super (leaded) was 37.5c/gal so I think that works out at about 8.3c/lt. I cannot identify with diesel at the time as it only became important to me in the 2000s with my first diesel 4WD.
