I regularly travel "in convoy" with friends who own one of these or something similar and we made frequent use of it during our trip to North Qld this year.

Has anyone seen the new butane gas bbq that on market now ... seen it at out local camping store ..not sure of company who make then but will have look next time .. they are two burners with bbb plate and use tow can of gas at one time look good ... if anyone has one already lets us know what they are like ....cheers

I just checked against the Weber website and it is the "Baby Q100"

Unpacked and set up new Weber Baby Q. Looks the goods and won't take up much space whilst travelling. Might have to get a second gas bottle fitted to the c'van though.
Apparently i am cooking a roast in it on Boxing day to test it out, so i'll let you know how it turns out.

A second gas bottle is well worth having anyway. IMHO.

Only two Jim?. Bush camping I always travel with at least 4. 2 @9kg one for the van and one for the gas fridge freezer in the annex. A 4.5 for the gas light outside and another 4.5 for the outdoor table, situated over the draw bar where we do 95% of our cooking if it is not done on the campfire. oh yeah i've never run out of gas but i've come close lol

Was in Bunnings today, they have a little BBQ in there for 127.00. Wasn't the baby weber but looked good. I was hoping I would remember the name when I got home but no, my memory is not what it used to be.

Roasted a leg of lamb yesterday, using a bbq meat probe thermometer.
Absolutely beautiful. Looks like the weber will be travelling with us in future.Have been using one of those $25 burners with the gas cannisters and a fry pan for the last couple of years, and it will still have its uses, but i can do so much more with the weber.

We can free camp 3-4 days a week with 9kg bottle for fridge and a 75amp battery for lights and intermittent t.v. Gas bottle lasts 4 weeks and we charge the battery when on 240v power.
(have a 1kva gennie, used twice) need to have a proper shower and scub up every few days, the shower tent is o.k but!!

Thinking i will get a second gas bottle and run a hot wire from alternator via an isolator either direct to fridge or c/van battery. Any thoughts on this?

when you cook ur roast in the baby use a trivet and under the trivet double over a piece of alfoil a little bigger than the trivet and after you pre heat the baby q lower the gas control knob down about three strokes lower than high for best results good luck you will enjoy ur baby q

Essentially, yes, a good idea. Suggest you "drill down" through the techies forum for more info (and the general forum too). You could try the search function but I seem to find it a bit "flakey' on this website.

Alternately you could open a new topic either in the techies or general forum rather than drift too far off-topic here.

Details on the BBQ I saw in Bunnings. Jumbuck Tourer Portable BBQ price 129.00. It is quite a good size for travelling.

Hi there , We use a baby q when travelling and it is the greatest. We use it for every think from roats to snags and even damper. I suggest vyou get one you will love it.

The problem with those cheaper BBQ's is that they are not alluminium and caste, they are generally enamelled metal which chips and is nowhere near as servicable. The other major benefit with Weber is the cleanining aspect, simple and easy.
Look carefully when choosing other brands and types, Weber is not priced as it is for no reason, nor has it's reputation been built on myths...they are a great unit and time proven.

we got one for christmas and love it...
so far we have done pork spare ribs, pork medallions, chicken fillets in Spanish citrus marinade, lamb chops....
all have been absolutely superb. I reckon it will be one of the best things we have in our van.

Now come on and share some recipes for this little ripper?

We also have a baby q, and only yesterday cooked a small rib roast in it for dinner. The meat was so tender! It's portable, convenient, and you can cook anything from roasts to fruit cakes in it, and because it's used outside, it doesn't put odours through your van. We love ours.
