As a muso for 35 years, the band was predominately country rock covers from Patsy Cline's Crazy thru Johnny Cash, Eagles, Beachboys and of course CCR, even some songs from late movies such as ****tail and the like.
Also a heavy influence from English bands such as Hermans Hermits and Dave Clark 5 etc.
My ex (still a good mate) was female lead vocal, I was main lead and the guitarist and drummer filled in with some leads. All members HAD to harmonize.
My ex (bless her little cotton socks) shouted myself and my wife to a dinner and show for my birthday in 2010. Guess who (no, not the band, although I did one of their songs) but CCR. Sad that John Fogg wasn't up front and the only original member was Stu Cook, but they were great. The guy up front did a great rendition of Foggerty, but by the end of the show he occasionally went back to his natural voice.
I was having so much fun I was singing the hardest I have ever sung, and didn't care who heard. It was great to see the younguns (under 40) at the back of the hall dancing.
I have only ever seen 4 musicians in my life, Shirley Bassey, Tina Turner, ELO and Creedance. My affinity was with CCR because I felt they were a realistic, earthy bunch of guys just cranking it out.
If you can still stand my ramblings, the guitarist in my band at one stage was a school teacher and the kids wanted our band to play at the kids formal, which he explaned to them that we were not a suitable band for them. Anyhow, we did our usual country rock (only louder) and things went fine. Taking a break, a couple of girls asked us if we wrote our own music (refering to a couple of Creedance songs we finished the set with). The drummer said we did, but drummers are known to make up stories, and I did explain to the young girls, we played these songs before they were born.
I'm not so knowledgeable about bands, but I know what I like. As a '54 model, the late 60's/early '70's was my era. But I also love the older stuff like Patsy Cline, Doris Day, even back to the big bands.
My childhood friends brother was in a band when I was in my very early teens, and I loved nothing more than being there when they practiced. We'd have a ball dancing ( gogo-ing) and singing.
I was taken to a Santana concert in Adelaide years ago. What a musician!!! I've seen Adam Brand at the Bathurst Leagues Club. I love CCR and anything I can hear the lyrics and sing along to. Adele is a fave, so is El Divo. As a member of Sing Australia I get a good dose of music every Monday evening for 2 hours. I love it.

I used to play in dance band in the 80's and we played the old 60 40s style so we played all the then old standards. We used to play at all the country dances and at balls and special occasions such as lions conferences Jaycee etc.
Also played in the local brass bands for many years so my preference so for Brass, Jazz and the older eras but really I enjoy any music that has a tune and is also in tune.

I'm sure my uncle played drums in a band called Purple Haze in Ipswich back around 1970.
Some of my favourites are Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Cream, Stones, Easybeats, Pink Floyd, AC/DC, The Angels, Eric Burden, CCR, Jethro Tull, Fleetwood Mac, Santana (his old stuff) etc.. etc... but have also been to see quite a few more recent bands and been to a few Big Day Out's with the yunguns..
My collection is up to about 250GB of music at the moment, so there's a heap of different stuff there.

Aah the sixties. What a time for a teenager and the music around then. I think in those days I saw almost all the major bands and then some at the discos (and they were called that then) around Brisbane. Masters Apprentices, Zoot, Groove, Groop, Somebody's Image, Aztecs (when Billy was still strumming a guitar outside his old man's butcher shop), Johnny Farnham, Normie Rowe, Party Machine, Max Merrit and the Meteors, the list goes on.
Usually now more than 50cents entry and also included house bands such as Purple Haze, Flamingoes, In Crowd etc. etc.
A couple of times a year they would have a midnight to dawn dance on the top of the Wickham Terrace car park. Snoopy's on the rooftop, and it cost 60cents to get in or $1.00 for a couple, so we would all hook up with a girl outside to save the 10 cents. That bought a coke when you got inside.

Purple Haze were a local Bne band, maybe from Ipswich but from what I remember they were a bunch of kids, weren't we all (very good at covers, as most bands played those days), all under about 16 or so. There was a band in the 60's and 70's called The Purple Hearts with (to become legends) Mick Hadlee and Lobby Lloyd.
Yeah Uncle Rick would have been in his early 20's when I was 16 back in in 1970, so it may have been a little bit before 70. They used to play at local all age discos and pubs in Ipswich and Brisbane.

From what I remember (and I'm really stretching the memory now) I think Purple Haze had somne brothers in the band but it was a long time ago and I may well be wrong.
Hi, I was both the Drummer and 1 of the founding members of Brisbane Band Purple Haze along with my Brother Barry as Lead Singer, Kevin Bynes as Lead Guitarist, Joe Origliasso ( The Veronicas Dad ) was on Keyboards and Tony Wheat / Paul Messer and Frank Milward were our Bass Players at different times.
We played at every Brisbane venue that was putting on live bands in the 60's and early 70's including Adam and Yves, Electric Circus, Snoopy's Hollow, Wizards Cauldron, The Reservation, The Web and bucket loads more as well as appearances on every Television channel for shows like Count Down, Everybody Inn, Sounds of 7, Uptight.
Yes we also played at various venues around Ipswich as mentioned in previous threads.
I am still active in the Music Industry and have been Repping for various Australian Music Industry wholesalers for the last 31 years and slowly gearing up for my Grey Nomad Adventure with my wife of 39 years....Joanne.
Have fun and Rock out......G.D.
