Lakes Entrance in March is a horrible time to be there. The seas are calm, there are still boats bringing in Prawns. It is the best time to catch fish from clean salt water, Mullet cooked over a tea tree BBQ to the big Dusky Flathead, flaky, firm flesh, nice soft white wine sauce. Self caught school prawns from Lake Tyers.
Bream that you really shouldn't catch because it is wrong to catch bream that big.
Crusty fresh buttered bread, with fresh prawns, a squeeze of lemon juice and some freshly ground black pepper!
Thats all I have to say about that!
I have also thrown a stone over the river at Walgett!

around South West Gippsland. I went down the shops earlier today and wow, the amount of tugs towing CV's or similar was amazing and people everywhere. I knew it was busy around here the last four weeks but gee I didn't think that bad. You couldn't move down the main street of Wonthaggi at one stage, a traffic jam in Wonthaggi, who would have thunk.
It's good that things are starting to slow down a bit now so I had better get my act together, repack the Avan, keep and eye on the weather and such like, then get out in the playground. A week at Greens Lake in February is looking good as is a week in Lakes Entrance in March then that's it, you won't see me for dust.
It's going to be very interesting around here now, no Desal Plant Workers and no where near as many Tourist's so us locals might be able to move around now. There is the people that wait until after the School Hols to arrive but we can cope with that, I will be one of them soon only in different areas.

The tourist season doesn't actually slow down, it just moves. North in the southern winter, south in the southern summer. It warmed up a bit earlier this year. I observed this when I travelled north in September. Thousands of Victorian were heading south, a couple of weeks earlier than usual. It varies from state to state, region to region, but it's great to see which way they're going. I'm a number plate watcher, which gives me the idea of which way they're going. Ah, yes. Another week or so and the WA ankle biters will be back at school and we Perthites can head off down to the south coast for a bit of swimming, fishing, vineyard visiting and other such tiresome pastimes. Have sussed out some good little beachside campsites and can hardly wait.

Boothie, you have talked me out of it now, it just sounds terrible that time of the year. I will let my friends know and we will just have to cancel our plans.
Second Thought though, I could put myself out and do that horrible stuff you warned me about just to save you going through the pain. I would do that for you, that's what friends are for.

Another good reason is the onset of the Big Wet in northern OZ. I am migrating south to get away from the rain and cyclones, and think I did it at the right time, as there,s one forming near Cairns as we speak. As soon as someone says "cyclone",everybody moves to safer climes. Besides I need some time away from the terrorists, woops, tourists. Bill

OMG Boothie my mouth started watering as soon as I read flathead and then I think I dribbled when you mentioned bream and I know I did when you mentioned self caught prawns on buttered bread with a squeeze of lemon juice and black pepper!!!!
OK BG I get the hint, I will force myself to go to Lakes Entrance and eat heaps of those Flatties and Prawns just for you, I will down all that with a nice drink or two and think of you at the time.

Yes , the south coast, whether its Lakes entrance , or Eden, seems to be the best at this time of year. I am looking at some land near Tathra, to put a shed for the summer. Also , the fishing is good. Beats NQ at this time of year. Bill
And after being in Newcastle area for the last week with it's humidity I'm glad to be back on the NSW South coast where every day is wonderful in some way.
