We take a similar one with us in the campertrailer. Very economical on fuel and packs into a milk crate for transporting in the CT or on the roof rack. Be warned if you intend to make one yourself, the cylinder needs to be completely free form gas before cutting and the residue inside removed or you could end up in hospital or worse when you try cutting it.

One way of doing this is to gently open the valve for a few minutes until any minor residual gas has stopped escaping, then use a spanner to carefully unscrew the valve right off the cylinder, then get the garden hose and totally fill the cylinder with water until it overflows. Then you know you have a cylinder totally free of gas - empty out the water and start cutting !

I'd still be wary of any residue that may be stuck to the inside, when it heats up and turns to vapour it could still be dangerous. I usually soak them for a couple of days with some dish washer powder (el cheapo brand) added to the water to try and remove any residue that may be present. Whether it really makes much difference i'm not too sure though.

We purchased a rather large tin bucket from Mitre 10 for around $15. Cut a door and hinged  in the lower side of the bucket to feed the wood in to it. Then drilled holes opposite each other in the side to take large tent pegs or stakes to stand the billy or camp oven on. Works a great for less than $20. But I must say  it does look like a Jay&Dee invention. However it does the job and is nice an warm at night around the camp fire???
