,All the gadgets to test cylinder always decided to not work when you need it ,and why bother with another gadget when water will do the job. We have enough gadgets to complicate one's life, so one less makes good sense to me.

Exactly Gerty - so the hot water trick seems to be a great idea. I agree with herbie - why take too many gadgets. Caravanning used to be enjoyed for the simpler life it gave.
I've always used the hot water method. So quick and easy to do. The other way is when you suddenly realise your fridge has turned itself off, UhOh gas bottle empty.
Mine ran out on my first night out on this trip. Not so important that the fridge stopped, because it was cold enough to keep things chilled til I got to the next town.
JC, I know you keep track of the price of gas,,,it was $14.50 in Dalby Mitre 10.
I find the best way is to get a big pot of soup or stew, just about get it to boiling point and then wonder why it has stopped cooking LOL, works everytime for me...........just happened the other day.

I'm with you Pauline, nothing like spending a couple of extra dollars on two nice pieces of rib eye steak and having it ruined cause the gas ran out!!! someone needs to invent a sensor alarm system to alert you when you are down to 2 steaks and a cuppa left in the gas bottle ............
Cheers

My brother-in-law has a guage thingy on his gas bottle, which he bought at Aldi. It shows very clearly when it's getting low. Must look into one myself.
It's called a GasFuse - BCF have them, but Aldi is cheaper (when they do have them in stock - that's where we bought ours).

Ah Ha ! I just checked BCF - they call them a Safety Gauge in their catalogue.

I can remember putting a lovely piece of pork in the Webber and going out for a few hours, drooling over the thought of roast dinner when we got back to the van
We had fish and chips that night!!
Hot water does it for me since then.

A man who asks a question is a fool for five minutes, but ask no questions and your a fool for life!!
The advice we were given was Weighing them , but who carries scales?
I use a set of luggage scales I bought from Aldi ($10) , they are about 6 inches long
Bottle shows the gas bottle weighs 8.3kg and a full bottle holds approx 8.5kg so full bottle around the 17kg mark.
Weighed mine yesterday and total was11.5 so i know i have roughly 3kg gas left. With dual bottles simple matter of making sure 1 bottle is full and just use the other until empty
