stop & think

I would second that Jimbo. A girlfriend and I were only having this exact conversation last weekend in Echuca. We were talking about life and where we are at present and what the future may hold, when I suddenly said, " can you believe that we are the age we are?". We both said a resounding NO. I am 58, don't mind admitting it and certainly do not feel that old, some days don't look that old, don't act that old, and it was not too many years ago when 60 was considered a good innings and really old. To me age is just a number now and it is how we are in life that makes that difference. I am in excellent health and have a good life, so guess I am lucky, but have worked hard to be in the position I am, as did my late husband. So all in all life is sweet. It is our mindset that makes us old or young I believe.

As my youngest son said to me yesterday, "Mum, I am giving you until next Friday to work out what you are doing with your life, you are too young to sit around waiting for it to happen,", just hate that coaching from my kids, but he is right and so life becomes about doing again instead of thinking about it. That MH or some mode of transport will not be too far away and heck I might just add in an O/S trip toboot. Who knows where the road of life will lead me.

Good on you for getting out there now Woosy and not leaving it for one day, because from experience that one day just may never come. Good post and never hurts to reflect and restock on life.

Ohhhh PS, there are somedays I think I look and feel about 88 not 58. confusebiggrin

Woosy I have been trying to convince my husband of this without success. I just hope ill health is not the reason we finally do it. I want it now while my health is reasonable, because as you said, time keeps on moving and no ones getting any younger.

That is why we have been roaming this great country for 19 years. We retired early (on not much money) but decided the life style was something we could do while still relatively young & poor & not wait by working ourselves into the ground to get rich & then retire when all our bones ached, muscles had gone to flab & any other health bits allied to old age.

Don't put anything off I spent last week sitting in hospital 14 hrs a day with a friend and after all the tests and scans, you name it, the final Dr statements was there is nothing we can do for your friend apart from make her comfortable for the closing days . Prognosis is 2 weeks to a month that's how aggressive her bone cancer is that will make five weeks since they found it . So don't wait around life is no rehearsal . Planned renos on my home are now off the drawing board and what I have started will be finished within the month , then that's it I'm off to who knows where

Yep I agree. My partners diagnosis and ten months chemo and surgery sure made us rethink life!
We bit the bullet and sold the house and bought the van. Last of the furniture gets picked up today. Last few bits and pieces to a friends garage for us to sort thru and either sell or give away! Tonight we move into the caravan. 5 more weeks of employment! Then we hit the road. We have savings and I have excellent work skills! The world is our oyster!
Can't wait...but scared too! :)
Carpe diem! Seize the day! :)

My father (who lived to 103) was very annoyed at us for being so irresponsible as to waste money on a caravan and "tripping around". I think actually he wanted us close by to see to his needs instead.
Its nice to hear of a younger generation who agree with their parents "doing their thing" while they can.

A friend had finally talked his wife into going on a trip as he had retired. We hear they got as far as Brisbane and have had to return home as she has found a lump in her breast (the first breast has already be removed). It's well over five years since the first op and I guess she thought she could go - but have they left it too late? So sad.
