Portable Convection oven

If, like many caravans, yours does not have a built in oven there is a great alternative if you are longing for a delicious home cooked roast whilst on the road.

We appreciate the lack of having no oven in our van because the space is taken up by storage drawers that are much more beneficial for us. But we also appreciate a good rib roast too.

We stumbled across this great little Lumina brand electric convention oven from Aldi for $20!!!. (similar available from Big w or Kmart around $30).

The beauty if this little beastie is that it is quite portable and relative small in size. It adequately cooks a leg lamb roast, chicken or just about anything else you would do in your oven at home. Even cakes!

It uses high powered halogen heat globe and a fan to circulate the heat. Amazingly it produces very little mess to clean up and what is produced is very easy to clean off the glass bowl.

It chews up some power though so it is really only suitable when running off a substantial power supply. Great at caravan park when using their power. It takes less time to cook than normal and the end result is quite succulent. Even the roast veggies are fantastic. You need to be mindful that the bowl gets quite hot and will shatter iif any cold liquid is suddenly added.

It comes with its own heat proof stand and racks. An awesome little find.image.jpg

We have been using one of these for years and love it so much we bought 2 . One for the van and one for home.

Roast pork is delicious and the crackle the best ever! I have done casseroles, baked dinners, chicken (in a bag), chips, pizza, warmed up sausage rolls and pies and even though I haven't cooked cakes ( we don't eat much cake) we have heard it is easy to do.

I use it at home as in the summer we can still have our baked dinners and it doesn't heat up the house. We have a full stove and oven in our van and the oven has only been used when we are free camping.

It is one of the best appliances I have ever bought.

Yes the vegetables are great cooked in it.

I put it on the drop down table outside the van plug in and cook. No smells in the van and lots of compliments from fellow travellers on the aroma, some people have enquired where to buy them ( most electrical stores and Aldi, Kmart , Homeart) , very cheap $39 was the dearest and $20 Aldi. There are some that are expensive but the cheaper ones work just as well.

I finally tried to boil Eggs in mine the other day.  Does the job perfectly, even if it takes a bit longer than normal.

15 mins @ 185, on the High Rack in the cheaper models.

Cheers,

Sheba.
