thanks for your comments, we happy with the rig so far, had a few Jayco manufacturing defects to sort out, like plastic drain pipe kinked so bad that even water did not pass on our first trip and one or two other things but now settling down a bit...I hope... we will soon know anyway.

Jayco are probably the best for coming to the party before and after the warranty has expired, but their quality control is or was sadly lacking and I think they leave it to the consumer to sort things out rather than pay quality control more attention.

A new Jayco I had did have several things needing attention, the worst was fumes escaping from the sides of the range hood. When I removed it I found that a hole had not been made in a dividing piece of wood to allow the fumes to escape to the outside vent. From talking to other Jayco owners I found I was not the only one that had this problem, and one owner I was talking to about it said his was the same and checked it out there and then and bingo, found the source of his problem (the same).

One I had the bugs ironed out I was very happy with the van.

Hope you find yours gives you lots of pleasure once you have ironed out the bugs etc. That crappa looks familiar, on the south coast in SA heading west????

Yea the Crappa is a Minnipa 40ks west of Wudinna, it is where we turn off to go in the back end of the Gawler rangers nation park for bush camping,

The issues I have had have only been minor but should not have happened, and for a none technical person ( with respect) would be a big issue and would mean a return to the dealer for me thats like a 165kms minimum one way,

I was the general Service Manager for Brownhills motorhomes in Newark on trent in the UK a few years ago and have seen so many poor quality workmanship things would make ur hair stand on edge, that is if you have any, we all pay a shed load of cash for these rigs and these problems are just down to the lack of quality staff and or shortcuts to save a bob or two in the design and of course the old favorite the PDI ( pre - delivery inspection) should have picked up these issues,

Ha just remembered from day one have had issues filling the water tank takes forever to get 80 lts in found air vent pipe kinked over to, was the same soft clear plastic hose as the sink pipe, cheap as chips stuff!

Re the bunk lid who puts in a standard pop rivit into 3mm plywood to hold a hinge on?? who uses a 3mm plyood lid to support the bunk seat, gives way under 10kg load let along my 90 = kg weight ??

The water bottle holder was welded too close to the front door hatch so each time you opened the door if it had the 20 lt bottle in the holder it scraped on the chain,

the front jockey wheel was fitted so that when you have a load leveler spring bars fitted you cannot have the jockey wheel so it's bracket has had to be removed and refittted to the inside of the A frame channel, the Ezy - lift arms and chains now clear fine,

Not bagging Jayco I love our van, but just a few tiny things would help build up their reputation in a positive direction.

Our Jayco is now 3 years old, and we have been frustrated by "little" things wrong with it, which cause major inconvenience sometimes . One by one my handyman partner has fixed many of them, and the Jayco dealers around Australia have been very helpful too when needed. We've realised that there will always be those hassles.

BUT the Jayco we bought was nearly $20 000 less than other vans we looked at that were comparable. We can do a lot with that much money.

Thats exactly what we thought when we looked at a new van,
But is'nt funny that all these small issues as you say do cause a heap of inconveiance when we are out and about, and are also quite easy to fix up even by us general handymen!!
I have seen even the very best most expensive vans and motorhomes have similar or even worse issues so we actully lucky really when you think of it!

Nice rig! We might have even seen you not so long ago at the "concrete crappa". If it was the same day, weren't those winds something else! Enjoy your new home. TC

Seems everyone I talk to or hear from that has a Jayco has these types of problems and there's just no excuse for them - it takes just as much time and effort to do the job properly than to do it properly. I'm not getting a Jayco (not necessarily because of reported experiences such as this) and I am sincerely hoping I don't encounter anything similar.
