Who is responsible for Greens Lake

Liddle, why would you be looking for someone to sue? That's one of the problems with this modern world ... it seems that every time something goes wrong someone has to be sued. Sometimes people just stuff up, its no one's fault and to quote Forrest Gump - "s**t happens ... deal with it.

Greens Lake is certainly unusual in that there is free camping with no time limit.

I am surprised that there are not 100s of campers there permanently.(  maybe there will be now that members are calling for all to come to Greens Lake for Xmas.) What would happen if 100s of Grey Nomads turned up ?

Would be interesting to find out which government or semi gov or body would be responsible if there was an accident at the facilities. Who would one sue ?

I can now answer my own question.

Greens Lake comes under the management of Goulburn Murray Water which in turn is part of the Murray Darling Basin.

So any accidents or mishaps should be covered under the umbrella of the insurance for

Goulburn Murray Water

40 Casey Street (PO Box 165) Tatura, 3616

The only mishap likely is getting baled up in the loos by a brown snake.
Really if i have to worry about who im gunna sue if i fall over a tree root, ill stay home.

The first new years eve I spent there the turnout was estimatedat 4000 people. I have also been there when there's been no one else.
Yes Goulburn Murray Water run the area, we've had many conversations with them when needing to notify them of anything happening at the lake they need to know about.

D & D

Sorry that you read that I was looking for someone to sue, I am certainly not.

I was curious to find out who would offer free camping for an unlimited time and also cover the campers for insurance. The campers must be covered by someone.

When there are thousands of people camping in an area there are bound to be accidents. It is part of life these days that someone must take responsibility. I was curious as to who was responsible. They must have insurance to cover every possible contingent.

Insurance is such a huge factor these days that companys and semi gov  bodies usually cannot afford to have a great number of people free camping on their property. I know people with private property think twice before allowing campers in because of the insurance problem.

Maybe Camps Aus Wide, they told us to go there.

Sue the Caravan Parks as they made us bush camp LOL.

If you stuff up then accept the responsibility.

If your skills are not up to the task or you don't watch what you are doing or just clumsy then accept it and if you stuff up then accept that you should have learnt something for the next time.

One of the down sides of today's community as every one wants to blame someone else for their inadequacies.

Get out and enjoy our country as the soldiers who gave their lives in many wars wanted us to by enjoying our freedom and helping others where ever we can at any time it is possible.

Give others praise where it is needed or deserved and advise to those who are prepared to accept it and accept that some others never learn and believe they are always right .

Regards
Brian

"Liddle" maybe you need to settle down a liddle and stop upsetting people and enjoy this very short life and this great forum that 98% of members just love. Just maybe that 98% has has become 97%.

Sorry but you have just got the hair on the back of my neck shaking at the roots, just hope I don't trip over them as I don't have anything to sue myself with.

Cindy, I am also sorry.

That's it, I will keep out of this now and settle down myself. I just needed to get that of my chest, um, neck.

This thread is now making me angry. If you have an accident, its your fault not theirs. If they are proven negligent then maybe its theirs. Until then its yours so suck it up and forget about who you can sue just incase. Its people like liddle who will get free camps shut down if councils hear about being sued because somebody cant take responsibility for their own accidents. Campers ad other camp users take responsibility for themselves, as do the hundreds of water sports people there.
Of course they have their own insurence, but that doesnt mean you are entitled to a peice of it just because you want to blame them for your stuff up.

Can you please identify your rig to us as i dont want to be parked near you incase you sue me for taking the shade or something.
Ok now im with Doug, leaving the thread. There are more important things in this short life to enjoy, why worry.

Liddle for someone who suggested that there should be a separate thread for 'anything Greens Lake' so you would not have to read about it why are you now in here in this new thread?

I agree with Kandagal and also wonder why you are reading the Greens Lake forum Liddle when you don't agree with it.

Maybe you should read my post again.

Greens Lake appeared to be in the middle of farmland. It did not appear to be in a National Park or State Park  or Forest and I was interested to know who was responsible for it. To make the matter clear by what I meant by responsible I used the term who could be sued , in other words who was paying for the infrastructure.

I cannot see anything wrong with this question which I have now found the answer to.

Scotty, I think the point "Liddle" was trying to make is, there were too many threads about "The" Lake in Solo's.

Mmmmm, does that mean I agree with "Liddle" confuse Nope, no way in the devils room.

What I do agree with is, why is "Liddle here confuseconfuse

Bugga, I said I was gone. Now I am.

Iam relitivley new to this forum, and being a person who is a quiet type I don't contribute much but enjoy this forum very much and any time something comes up about Greens,I love reading the goings on and looking at the photos, just to see what a great time you are all having.

Now all I can say about Liddle,he or she certainly knows how to liven up the forum,I bet the webmaster doesn't even know whichway to go now, maybe start up a Liddle thread, then may be not as no one would probably go there, and liddle themselves would still go the greens thread.

Hooroo,keep having fun at greens.Des

I would like the chance to reply to this statement as it is not true.

At no time did I suggest that there should be a separate forum Greens Lake.

Why I am writing this is to correct the message so that the true version can be verified by anyone interested. Once something is written on the internet it is there forever for all to see.

Ha Ha very funny.

What I was thinking was more along the lines of what would happen if someone drowned, or maybe worse half drowned and resulted in severe brain damage. What would happen if there was a gas explosion or some other accident that resulted in a person suffering blindness or severe spinal damage or loss of limb?

This would not be so funny for Goulburn Murray Water or the ratepayers of The Shire of Campaspe as the resulting lawsuit would be in vicinity of many many millions of dollars.

I actually think most have taken the wrong slant on liddle's post. He I believe was only wondering (as he says above) who would cover people with insurance as it is such a popular place and is free. I think I agree with him. And he took the trouble to find the answer.
We're looking forward to one day visiting Greens ourselves. Hope liddle does too.

 Thank you NeilnRuth

It is very hard with the written word as one cannot see facial expressions which can  convey a lot.

Yes I will probably visit Greens Lake and who knows we may even meet up.

I will not be going anywhere for a while as it is too hot now, except maybe to Tasmania.

It would not at all surprise me in time to come, that some bright spark thinks 'Gee we can make some bucks here from all these campers'.

When there are thousands of people camping in an area there are bound to be accidents. It is part of life these days that someone must take responsibility.
I think people free-camping should assume responsibility for their own actions and misadventures.
Using an old long-drop dunny that looks like a shanty about to fall down covered in blackberry bush - well you know before you even step near it there is a good chance it's a snake pit. So you get bitten - you went there, no one twisted your arm - your fault as far as I see it.

Insurance is such a huge factor these days that companys and semi gov  bodies usually cannot afford to have a great number of people free camping on their property.

Is there any signs saying similar to 'Enter at own risk' or other similar lengthy legal type wording on some sign?
I have never been there - although anywhere I camp I do so with the mindset that if I come a cropper due to my own actions or lack of diligence then I am the only one to blame.

I can see what you are getting at - for example if someone went for a swim and contracted some exotic disease or similar, who bites the bullet with responsibility? Is it the people who own it, manage it or the person with the exotic disease?

It comes back to before - you go to these (or any) place at your own risk. If you are walking up a cliff on a rainy day and slip, because rocks get slippery in the rain can you reasonably seek damages for your two broken legs? I would think not - I'd doubt in a court of law that you could prove beyond reasonable doubt that you were not aware rocks became slippery when it rains.
