Was just down at SuperCheap and bought a adhesive backed non-slip ribbed rubber pad for the step on our Avan - never seen these before and for under $5 it should help avoid a slip or two on the steel surface.
They seem to be fairly decent quality and I'll clean the step first with petrol.
I like it Dennis, They look like they will do the job.
Now I'm probably gunna be telling an old hand how to suck eggs but here goes..
After you clean the step up with petrol give it a really good scrub with diluted dish washing liquid and then rinse it off and dry it before applying the step protector, petrol will leave a residue that will affect the adhesive.. Then if you spray the step with window cleaner before applying the protector you will be able to reposition it if it isn't where you want it..and as the spray dries the adhesive will stick..

Thanks Bob, I just used petrol....didn't think of a residue but I guess you're right. It stuck "instantly".
Re the window cleaner - never heard of that one but it sounds pretty good too. What type of window cleaner would you use - Windex etc which is water based or one of the dearer ones that are solvent based?
Regards
Just a soap based on mate, even a bit of dishwashing liquid and water in a spray bottle is good enough it stops the item from sticking untill you have it properly positioned we use it to put the tinting onto windows so we can roll out the wrinkles before it sticks..lol
Baz went to our local Supercheap this morning and couldn't find it. He asked one of the guys and he didn't know anything about it. Has it a brand name ? or something on the oackaging to give us something to go by,maybe they could look it up on the computer. Baz said they had it by the metre at Bunnings but we don't need that much.
I have had a couple of slips on our step and it's dangerous.
Tried to post a link but cannot - anyway if you go to the Supercheap website and type "adhesive step tread" into their search bar at the top it will magically appear.
Good Luck.
Mines been in the full sun with outside temp 39C and rubber tread temp very very hot.....I find I can peel edges up with little effort which indicates to me that maybe oldbobus may have been correct in saying petrol will leave residue OR it's so damn hot nothing will stick. It's not going to slide off or anything dramatic, but I think I'll peel it off at a later date and re-stick with contact cement just to make sure, after all it's a pretty major investment @ $4.58. In cooler climes probably be OK. It's so hot here that one of my native bee hives has slumped - collapsed internally when the wax melts and the honey pots run away....lost about a cup of honey and the bees are very worried. I've since draped it in wet towels which should bring the temps down. Never happened before so it must be hot!

We bought one in "cheap as chips" in SA couple of years ago to place on the step section at the rear of the 4wd for our dog to be able to jump into the back of the fourby. Good value, but dog has since passed way......
