Welcome to the forum Will, you might get a better response putting this in General, however can you tell us what you are going to use it for, tent or RV and if so what type, single/double etc.
Can anyone shed some light on what type of mattress is best for comfort and support?
Is it for a troll !!Or!!, a real person............................>>>>.Billeeeeeee.............<<<<<< a real person..........................................
Many like inner spring (bear in mind that it will make it heavier to lift the bed for storage, albeit with struts) while others prefer a thick foam mattress with an overlay of egg crate foam or something similar, I usually added a doona inner over that as well and a mattress cover, then your sheets, slept like a baby.
If you click on the word Search in the dark blue line above, a search box will come up with lots of good info on mattresses, also look in the Hints Section on the forum index. Hope this helps.

Juergen - that is good advice - a mattress is a personal thing - some like a hard one, some soft, others like foam, some like innerspring.
Years ago had to buy a new mattress at home - took me weeks of lying down on beds in stores till I found the right one - had a combination of soft and support - costs a bomb!! But was the best mattress ever - and with the combination suited both me and my partner.
There are places that make mattresses for vans and motorhomes - they advertise in camping/caravan magazines, including the one put out by CMCA - might be worth investigating them - they make them to fit your space, as well.
Good luck with your search Will.

We had new single bed inner spring mattress made for our caravan last year at Made to Measure Mattress Brisbane website: www.madetomeasuremattresses.com.au very happy with them. They told us how to measure the mattress properly and they fit so well and are very comfortable so we would recommend them. they deliver all over Australia

I went into a bed shop & tried out a few innerspring mattresses. I picked one I found very comfortable & lightweight & had it made in 6'x 4'. I started with a top quality, expensive mattress & all up cost $1500 but figured it would be worth as I use it so much.
You will find most mattress manufacturers will make up a special size, provided it is equivalent to a standard mattress less a row of springs. You will have to pay a little extra for this, I think it was maybe an extra $100?
In fact I found the mattress I bought so comfortable I bought the same mattress in Queen size for my home bed. Not all mattress manufacturers will do this but most will if asked.
