I am trying to get organized to do some tripping. I was wondering what the seasoned traveler was using for navigation especially for the free and low cost sites. There are soooo many books out there and other gizmos that I don't know which I should be buying. Money is not in abundance in our household.
We have both Camps 6 and wikicamps..
We find the book is good for browsing when doing research before hand and wikicamps is good when you are on the road but we also tend to refer to our Camps book as well becoz we make noted in it from previous visits or if someone recommends a spot..
If you keep your eye out for a copy of Camps 6 some stores still have copies and are discounting them as Camps 7 is now available...
Wikicamps is only $4.95 anyway so that wont break the bank and you can select it for Ipad or Android..
Camps Aus Wide # 7. Wouldn't be without it.
Also street and road signs are invaluable. I find my way with the signs and paper maps. See much more than listening to a voice on a GPS telling me to turn left or right.
I have camps 6 and find it invaluable (updated from there web site), camps book is not cheap but they pay for them self's after you use it twice, I only use my Naveman in towns I've found sometimes it wants to take on narrow back roads or roads that don't exist in country areas, Tourist information centres always have lots of local maps and info

I have been using Wikicamps & leave Camps books alone. Have been on the road for 2 1/2 years now & use Wikicamps, as my Grey Nomad bible. It costs a once of couple of $'s & is continually updated. You get photos, comments & ratings for each site. It has not failed us once. Put the selected site coordinates into your vehicle GPS & that takes you there. The comments section is extremely valuable in making a site selection & the photos just top it off. I use it so much, I was their third biggest contributor at one stage.
It has filters, search engine, chat forum, off-line maps, help etc.
Wikicamps hands down! runs rings round the camps book's and updated in real-time with all the latest info and navigation, would never buy another camps book way overpriced and outdated the day they are released.
