Hi there Love your knowledge. We are newbies planning a 4 month trip in our Coromal popup which has a full canvas annexe. We are considering fitting a pullout out awning however wish to retain the option of maintaing our full annexe and have been considering the option of purchasing a freestandIng awning/ shelter
I use a reasonably heavy grade shade cloth screen but also have one vinyl end wall that I can put up when raining as I have seen several friends buy expensive annexes and never use them

We have a 16ft pop-top.
It came with a good, all canvas annex.
We have friends who set up a market stall regularly.
They just bought new, bigger gazebos so the old ones were up for grabs.
We snavelled the 3 mtr X 3mtr, complete with 2 gauze & 2 solid sides.
The plan is that for overnight or short stays we'll use the gazebo.
For longer stays or poor weather we'll put up the canvas.
The sliding on of the canvas, poles and pegs is tedious.
The gazebo is up in minutes with a fraction of the effort & bending.
Best of both worlds for us.
The gazebo is an Oztrail.
