Our Traveller Rig

Hi Everyone,  Been a member for awhile and this is our first post.  We are on our third caravan and have recently completed a trip (clockwise this time) around our great country.  Our rig went without a problem and we free camped about 50% of the time.  The Traveller van (23'6") is fitted with 3 x 140 watt solar panels, 3 x 120 amp Full River Batteries, three independent water tanks and independent suspension.  The GMC tug is fitted with a long range fuel tank (220 Lt), third accessory battery and rear and front cameras..  As well as the trip around the coast and inland we also did the River Murray free camping trip from Tocumwal to Rutherglen.   A number of Information/Tourist Offices have free mud maps of the numerous accessible free camp spots along the River, however best to go when it is not wet.  At the end of September we are heading from Victoria up the East Coast to Cooktown for another visit.   Have made many good friends and met numerous great people on our travels.    Regards, AlPal.

Hi grahos, after 22,000 kms the GMC is great.  Much more economical that 2011 VX Diesel  200 Series Land Cruiser.  More power, exhaust brakes and pulls easy, no regrets at all.   Lots of storage and pay load is also excellent.  The only negative aspect is the length and turning circle does not make it easy in car parking areas or shopping centres, but you get used to that and plan accordingly - just park a bit further away.

it has an aluminium body, hope it is stronger than a coke can.
I also have a mate who owns a Chevy.

Nice looking set up AlPal. It's good to see the big American Rigs challenging the traditional 4x4s as tugs in Australia. It's not that long ago when there were only three or four choices for towing bigger caravans. Choice and competition are always a good thing in this business.

Also SCD in Brisbane do a nice Dodge Ram conversion. Interesting specs on them.

Gday Alpal. Am wondering where did you fit your aux batteries in the GMC. Is there a tray available for under the bonnet
