Hi everyone just found this in the local Stanhope "ABOUT TOWN" news letter.
The article is in the police news section and describes what went on at greens last year, "the influx of revelers who attended the lake purely to cause trouble and play up "
GM Water representatives and Police resolved to close the lake over the a fore-mentioned dates.
Only a few days over the New Year period, perhaps decamp to Ayersons (spelling) Reserve for that period and then return???
I wonder if the Council would re-consider if one of the regular GN's offered to be a voluntary "Caretaker" over that period?
The council could supply a caretaker sign. That way someone could keep things under control a bit during the period (with due care to their own safety) and be a visible presence, even if only to report things to the cops if things getting of hand? (ps; I know there is limited or no phone coverage there so I believe).
For those that know the Greens, any thoughts on that?????
I think one thing that may work, is having the gate in closed at 9am on NYE, if you are notin by then, you can't come in!
Most of the young ones, and some older ones, who were only coming for the night, came in the afternoon. If a place like Lorne or Philip Island, in Victoria can do it, why not at Greens?

I can't see moving down the road to Aysons will work cos that will be packed anyway. Maybe just wait until after they open again.
Not sure about the gate locked with people already in there Jules, what if an ambo was needed. Maybe someone could be given a key though for any emergency that might pop up.

No matter what I'm going to be up there for the Period.. If I get Locked in I don't Care.....
- the Biggest issue is if we do get Locked in.. Can we have a Key to use in CASE of an emergency....?????
Or if that where the 4" Grinder comes in....

Those who were fortunate to be at the Peace festival in Wynyard last year solved the locked gate problem by camping just outside on the nature strip.
What a good night was had by all.
Will be at Greens again over the NYE and expect that no interruptions will occur, as far as locking the gate I doubt that it would happen but if it does it wouldn't cause me any grief I am as good as being locked in over November and December.
I sat down and worked out my time.. I expect to be up Pre Xmas and will not be going home till after New tears..
- I don expect to be moving much Once I'm Camped up..
I have had one year many years ago when we got Moved out of where we were camping..
- We managed to burn thru a huge Pile of Old Farm fence post in a 12hr's Period..
So When the ranger would of done a post newyear check I think the only thing they would of found was NOTHING...
So as I have said.. Once I'm setup I don't Plan to do any moving....

It wouldn't be "the ranger" - the grounds are managed by the water board, the water is owned by the local farmers. Police presence last year consisted of daily visits by the Stanhope police officer, and random "drop ins" by Rochester police, or passing patrol cars or vans. NYE there were "several" police vehicles parked discreetly, and when the trouble started - and really the only major incident was a young man getting "bottled" for spraying paint over someones car - those police were very prompt in quelling more trouble. A job well done.
No one is trying to stop young people having a fun NYE, but why should we be stopped from enjoying ourselves? A minority over a majority? Not right at all.
Unfortunately that is today's society - some people take no responsibility for their behaviour.
