Poor On-suite Shower Drainage.

Our van is 3 years old and always had poor drainage from the shower which has become worse lately.

The pipes are 40mm PVC pipes.

To overcome the problem I've altered the pipes as follows -

1. I removed 3 x 90o sharp bends replacing one of them with a sweep bend for less flow resistance.

2. I removed the original flat rubber tubing which acted as a non return valve to prevent odours coming back up the outlet.

( This was reducing the drainage from 40 mm down to 15mm and became a blockage point).

3. Added a new Hepworth 40mm  non return valve after the sweep bend.

4. Added a breather at the end of the pipe just prior to the hose.

5. Removed the "Dog Leg" at the end of the line replacing it with a straight piece of pipe also helped with the flow.

It's now working great and I hope this may assist other GN's who are going through the same problem.

Cheers, -  John

G'day John,

We had a similar issue with not so much our shower drainage as the sink surcharging into the vanity. I found that the outlet of the van was 40mm but the drain hose was only 20mm which I thought would be a choke point.

my solution was to source some 50mm flexible hose to attach to the outlet and we have had no problem since.

Hi Frank,

I too also had a 20mm hose but upgraded to a 38mm hose but then had a problem with the wife tipping tea leaves down the sink (which settled at the end of the hose forming a choke).

We then swung over to tea bags & coffee and another problem solved. smile

Cheers, John
