Sixth week at Greens

Friday and the weather was not really good and had a quiet day, ended up getting home early after getting cold sitting outside Billeee and Julies place. Of interest was the appearance of a couple of camels at Greens.

Saturday was much more interesting, I was given a lift to Maroopna and dropped off at Aldi's giving me lots of time to do shopping. Haven't had the chance for a couple of weeks to do a good shop and after talking to Shane a solo camper nearby I wanted to change my eating regime. Shane has been solo camping for over 6 years, he is a much younger man and is in really good shape.

I was interested in his diet because it definitely works together with his exercise program. He eats very simply with the equivalent of oats muesli with orange juice for breakfast and lunch and shuns preservatives, cooking with herbs to flavour his food and eating lots of vegetables and fruit. He drinks skimmed UHT milk and uses no sugar or butter preferring avacado for spreading.

I started out on my travels at 74kgs and after the first year had dropped to 69kgs and was considered gaunt and now 3 years on am 73kgs so actual weight is not the problem it is the distribution plus the fact that muscle and bone density would have been reducing weight. I intend to gradually eat healthier as I eat up the existing food in the cupboards, only buying what is considered to be healthy.

Most would say that at 78 why bother, take it easy and eat what you want when you want but I have plans to be travelling for many years to come and if a change of eating habits will prolong that then it is worth the effort. Not so sure about exercise though I have never been able to continue an exercise program for long and started off doing the 5BX Canadian Airforce exercise plan but it only lasted for a few months. The excuse was that my yoga mat got used to get the Hi Ace out of a bog in loose sand in WA and got chewed up.

This speed boat went a lot faster heading out than when it returned.

A sudden storm deposited lots of rain and also hail but I caught a lot of drinking water.

Another quiet day but had a fire at night with a few GN's coming round. In the afternoon Paul and myself cooked up some pikelets, not the Greens made up stuff requiring only water up to the prescribed level, no Paul bought a packet mix which needed an egg plus milk also require a decision as to the amount of water/milk needed. All turned out well with the new frying pan's non stick working well so much so that we have volunteered to cook pikelets at happy hour tomorrow.

A few of us went out for lunch at the Shamrock Hotel Rochester where they have a $10 lunch selection and after we had the happy hour where Paul and I volunteered to cook pikelets. Great except Paul went to Shepparton and didn't get back until most of the pikelets were cooked, Billeee took over and all the gathered nomads had plenty. One of the reasons for this happy hour was because several of our members were leaving the next day. Paul and Hazel, Lyn, Terry and  also Ken.

Another quiet day, Paul went to Shepparton  but nothing else of note happened. The day was hot and I pumped up the air bed and floated on the lake. There was a happy hour at Doug's place. Dennis and Yvonne returned with Mason, a previous member Sally also arrived with her dog and Brian who was here last year came in with a 13 man tent taking him 2 hours to put up for the first time

Bought an internet antenna similar to the one Darrel bought and showed me earlier.    https://www.telcoantennas.com.au/site/7m-telescopic-pole-antenna-65dbi   I have included suction caps as well as the magnetic holders. Walked up to the top of the hill at Wuruma Dam too many times last year and with this I expect to get internet service from the waterfront.

SKU: TELCO-5.7M-TELESCOPIC

5.7 Meter Telescopic Extending Pole Antenna with Integrated 6.5dBi Antenna

- Extends from 1.2m to 5.7m height

- Lightweight fibreglass mast

- 10m RG58 low loss cable (4m at full height)

- Integrated RFI COL2195 6.5dBi omnidirectional antenna

- Terminated with a FME Female connection, common patch lead connector

I have found a mobile phone service from Telstra where I can, similar to the prepaid internet service, have a longlife account without paying for monthly periods. I can spread the service over 12 months for $70 which suits my very small usage. So I have ordered a compact phone from Telstra which has a RF docking socket and can be used with the above antenna.

 Telstra T96 Black

2 megapixel camera

MP3 player, Expandable memory (up to 32GB) and Bluetooth

RF Port for attaching an external antenna

Blue Tick - Recommended to maximise coverage in rural areas.

and it only cost $49 including $10 calls.

Walked around to the point where windsurfers were flying, met up with the main man PJ who asked me to email him some of the pics that I took. The problem was that I am not used to high speed sports camera work and although they did lots of jumps near where I was sitting the results were not as good as I would have liked.

Good post John, maybe you need good zoom lens so you can capture things like the kite guys. Apart from that a good read, and good photos.

I agree with the others John, good reporting. You are our Reporter/Photographer here at Greens Lake and that is why I am not doing my usual "Updates". No need doubling up with the same things as I am at Greens too.

Well done mate.

Hi John. Makes me wish I was there. Still in Cairns. Very hot & humid. Wet season not really started yet up here.

Hey John.

if Heather and Norma are still there, send our best wishes, merry Christmas and a happy new year. If they can't remember us, just mention the old blue Val and the mobile hairdresser. Cheers Paul and Wendy (The Retro Roamers)
